Editorial Reviews

In 1970 Goose Creek Symphony ushered in a new brand of music that was hard to categorize. Blending a wide array of country, rock, bluegrass, folk, and blues, Goose Creek developed a huge fanbase that has remained loyal to the group. This new edition includes a bonus disc, packed with material from performances in 1994, as well as never before seen photos and liner notes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Damn Good for a "has to do". November 28, 1999
By Ron
Format:Audio CD
They say you cant wear out a CD. I sure hope so. I've played this CD 1000's of times and I am sure it will be 1000's more before I stop. On the down side, some of the cuts are are only ok but then I would have been happier with more familiar songs like Uncle Pen however, none are bad enough to skip over. On the good side the Goose has only gotten better as musicians. The jams are tight and original, and the changes are absolutely amazing. Although overtly Blue Grass, there is enough rock, jazz, and even classical music here to please almost anyone who listens to it. Theres even a touch of Hendrix and Beatles. As much as I would love to get copies of the Gooses original recordings this will do damn well for now. It has too.

5.0 out of 5 stars For those with an aquired taste for Goose Creek! July 6, 1998
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
In the early 70's, during our youthful years in Alabama, Goose Creek on 8-track was required equipment in my friend's old Chevy Nova. And when not in the car, we listened to my "Words of Earnest" LP over and over again. Goose Creek was definitely unusual and little known. We loved the exclusivity as much as the sound.
After years of searching for a Goose Creek CD to replace my long ago lost LP, I found this one through Amazon. It has been at least twenty-five years since my last dose but the magic is still there. This particular collection covers the evolution of the band, so far as I know. The vocals and instrumentals are truly unique and every cut is wonderful. Goose Creek was, and is, a wonderful respite from the ordinary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Difinitive for any complete southern collection January 23, 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Any Goose Creek album is a must have for any souther rock, folk, Greatful Dead, or plain out music fan. They truly capture the essence of the early beginnings of what is now called southern rock. Goose Creek Symphony must be had in order for any music fanatic to begin to "complete" their collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars You have got to HEAR this band to believe it. June 12, 1998
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I ran into the Goose Creek Symphony on an 8-track tape that I bought in DaNang, Vietnam in 1970. It blew my mind! I had never heard music like that before. It is impossible to catagorize unless you can actually comprehend the aural concept of Counrty Western - Bluegrass - Folk - Jazz - Acid - Rock - Improvisational work. Quite a stretch I know, but like I said, YOU HAVE GOT TO HEAR THIS BAND TO BELIEVE IT.
To make a short story long, I lost that 8-track years ago, but I have finally overcome the emotional scars and feeling of loss. It seemed that the band had just disappeared from the music scene for decades. Well, in actuality, they had. But they are back strong with this recording. It is as if they were never really gone. There are some oldies on the disc like "Words Of Ernest" that really take me back, but I also like the new stuff like "Still Dumb" (guess that might just be because I still am).
If you are tired of the same old music that you have been hearing people crank out for years, try this out.
You too can become a GOOSEHEAD.

5.0 out of 5 stars I've never heard music so easy to get lost in. October 4, 1999
Format:Audio CD
Goose Creek Symphony is the ultimate band. A friend of used to always talk about them, and I thought he was crazy. Then I purchased "The Goose Is Loose", and I too am a believer. This is by far the most complete cd I've ever listened to. I think the greatest thing about the Creek is that they are so good, yet so unknown. It amazes me that this band isn't a worldwide force. I asked my dad if he had heard of Goose Creek, and he laughed and goes, "I can't believe they're still around." This group definitely has staying power. This cd was stolen, along with about 250 others, from me 2 years ago, and it is by far the cd I miss the most. The soothing tones of "I Am The Earth" still ring in my mind, and bring back memories of countless days laying around with my fellow Gooseheads, enjoying how great life can sometimes be.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth the price of admission for Goose Creek fans! July 31, 1999
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Like any artist fan waiting for the album to CD transition, I'll take what is available, and hope it influences, in some small way, the rerelease of a CD or at least a best of compilation. This CD fills the void while waiting, with live versions of "Words of Earnest" and "Mercedez Benz", (grab them now while available!) Then adds a 20:12 Goose Creek jam that kicks in "Talk About Goose Creek And Other Important Places." The "Goose is Loose" CD is a true tribute to the group, and leaves you envious of the fans that were or are able to see them live. Regret? Of course. "Charlie's Tune" is missing! Fans of Goose Creek should also appreciate early, as well as, live "Ozark Mountain Daredevils".
