Editorial Reviews

Review

"Like A. A. Milne's 'When We Were Very Young' and 'Now We are Six' poems, Mz Goose's poems can be treasured and retained rather than outgrown." -- Poetic Voices

"Mz Goose asks for a creative-thinking response of the adult (parent or teacher) and the child, who is sure to delight in the imagination and originality, the warmth and immediacy." -- Joan Smutny, Founder and Director, Center for the Gifted, National Louis University

"Outmoded words like 'mill ponds' and 'curds and whey' have been updated for today's youngsters. These charming stories will enhance children's integrity, honesty and creativity while giving them hours of peaceful and pleasing enjoyment." -- Midwest Review of Books

About the Author

Since 1981, Elyse Aronson has been performing her original rhymes and stories as Mz Goose, the Modern Day Mother Goose. She has appeared in schools, malls, libraries and festivals across the country, dressed in long skirts, apron and a colorful hat full of flowers and puppets. Mz Goose and Her Wonderful Rhymes is a book and audio collection of the rhymes she's been telling to thousands of children, available now for children throughout the world.

Her purpose? To expand children's creativity through a literature that sparks their imagination. In pursuing this purpose, she has taught children's workshops in creative dramatics and creative writing in schools, park districts and university programs. She produced and directed the Mz Goose TV Show, where children wrote their own skits, and penned a newspaper column utilizing children's poems and stories. Her philosophy is expressed in her opening song: "We can change the world around...we can make dreams come true, imagination is our tool." By encouraging children's creativity, we nourish the artists, the inventors, the dreamers of a new and better civilization.

Her first books were published by Abilities Research, an organization for the improvement of reading and education in Los Angeles--Alphabet in Rhymes, The Crab and the Cat, and a series, The Many Ways of Being Me and My Five Senses. In 1983, LaFray Publishing of Florida asked her to write a cookbook --The Mz Goose Color-Me Cookbook. Articles about her work have appeared in the Tampa Tribune, The Washington Times, The Miami Herald, Baton Rouge State Times, Ladies Circle Magazine, Glen Ellyn News, St. Charles Chronicle and Star Publications.

Elyse Aronson's interest in the arts began early. Her mother was an accomplished pianist. From her home in Elgin, Illinois, they journeyed to Chicago, where she studied dance, elocution, and cello. In seventh grade, she won the Illinois State Speech contest for best humorous reading and was told she'd be a second Fanny Brice. She played in the University of Wisconsin orchestra while in high school, in college acted in the University of Wisconsin Theater and did summer stock children's theater in Indiana. She received her BA from the University of Wisconsin in Speech and Theater in 1963. In 1964, she studied theater at The American Academy of Dramatics Arts in New York City.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mz Goose's voice is comforting, joyful and satisfying., March 2, 2000
This review is from: Mz Goose and Her Wonderful Rhymes (Storytelling Audio) (Paperback)
Mz Goose's voice is so comforting and happy, she can take the place of the most loving Grandmother for bedtime listening or quite time. Her poems are good sense and funny with a purity rare today. I am giving this tape to friends and family and proud to have something of real value to share instead of the products dreamed up to make money. This book and tape set will give anybody true moments of simple happiness, what a gift! Ms Goose voice is a pleasure, this is not something parents will get tired of having to listen to, and children will learn some valuable points of character. Her presentation is very unique and special.

I love the Mz. Goose concept! Happy rhymes, without the violence of the old rhymes we grew-up with. Childhood is a sacred time of our lives, & learning to find our own happiness is a key ingredient. Children are so important to the world, let's cherish childhood! Go Mz. Goose!
