So you know what you're getting with this Series One and Series Two disk set,

I was a little confused as to how many episodes and how many seasons of Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares this disk set includes. Considering the low price, I decided 'what the heck' and bought it anyway. And I think it's definitely worth the price.
This set includes 4 disks: -Disk One includes 4 episodes from Season One, each episode with a 'revisit'. It includes Ramsay's very first "kitchen nightmare" - Bonapartes. The revisit episodes do include quite a bit of the original episode, including when Ramsay first revisits 1-3 months later, but I think these are worth watching as they show the restaurant several months to a year down the road as well. I just skipped through the scenes I had already seen in the first episode, so I didn't end up watching everything twice. -Disks Two and Three include 8 episodes of Season Two, including my personal favorite, "Momma Cherri's". Disk Two has two revisits and Disk Three has no revisit episodes. -Disk Four includes 4 episodes of Season Three, including two more revisits. Altogether, you are getting 16 episodes with 8 revisits. I saw two different regions listed for this disk when contemplating purchasing it and was a little confused with that as well - FYI, this disk IS coded for U.S. DVD players. Once again, I think this is a great buy for the price and you get the 'best of' episodes from the first 3 seasons. One last note - this is the unedited version, which is actually a lot more enjoyable, but keep this in mind if you have small children around, who are likely to pick up a cuss word or two from Chef. =)

You are not being short-changed,

Everybody who has commented needs to understand that British television does not have "Seasons" they have "Series" and they are not the same. American television is based on seasons usually running from Sep/Oct through Apr/May. British shows have no specific airing schedule nor length. The British Kitchen Nightmares Series 1 (Season 1 to Americans) only consists of 4 episodes; Series 2 is 8 episodes; Series 3 is 4 episodes; Series 4 is 6 episodes; and Series 5 is 8 episodes. To better understand this check out Internet Movie Database [...].

conflicting reviews? I know I was so here ya go:
First of all, the Amazon "editorial review" is incorrect. This set includes Series 1, 2, and 3. That is essentially Seasons 1-3 in US terms. Don't know why the producers of this DVD collection deemed it necessary to label it Vols.1-2 cause that makes no sense. Anyway, on to the individual discs. Disc One contains the original Episodes 1-4 from Series 1. They are: 1) Bonaparte's 2) The Glass House 3) The Walnut Tree 4) Moore House Each of these episodes is approximately 49 minutes in their entirety, and they are accompanied by yet another episode titled "Revisit" where Gordon returns to survey his handiwork at each restaurant. Likewise, these episodes are also about 49 minutes, but they include only about 7 minutes of new footage per at the end, the rest being a condensed version of the original airing. But, there are still 8 "episodes" in Disc 1. Disc Two: 1) Lanterna 2) D-Place 3) Momma Cherri's (Plus a revisit "episode") 4) La Riviera (Plus a revisit "episode") Disc Three: 1) The Sandgate 2) Clubway 41 3) Oscar's 4) La Gondola Discs 2-3 represent the original BBC Series 2. Disc Four: (Series 3, or Season 3 to us Yanks) 1) La Parra de Burriana (Plus revisit) 2) The Fenwick Arms (Plus revisit) 3) Roccoco 4) Morgan's Now before you ask, there are two more abbreviated Series (Seasons) that consist of 8 more episodes but to date they have not been released in the US so don't bother looking on Amazon, you'll be disappointed. They are however available in the UK and Australia so maybe we wont have to wait much longer. All of the BBC Nightmares shows were great, and they are all totally uncut and uncensored. Here you get Gordon Ramsay in his full bloom, with all the energy, passion, and straightforward "no punches pulled" glory, and man does he every sort out these failing restaurants and puts them back on the road to success, but its never easy and Gordon seems to relish in the challenge. If your only familiarity with this iconic figure is the dumbed down US versions of Hells Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares, you owe it to yourself to check out this series. All of Gordon's brilliance, tenacity, charm, and compassion comes shining through in each episode. And after watching, you will agree that this series is much more honest than anything you've seen on Fox Network. BTW, the "Bio" on G.Ramsay is very interesting for devoted fans.

Gordon Ramsay is controversial, colorful, and brutally honest. He flies into a situation, almost like Superman (with an apron or chef whites, rather than a cape, ha ha) and in the course of a week or so turns disastrous diners into respectable restaurants. The British version of the show is vastly better than the American version. You actually learn the real story behind the failures of these establishments, have extended interviews/segments with the main "players" (owner, head chef, house manager, etc.) and alot less of the melodramatics, music, narration, etc. than the American (FOX) version. This is the "real" version of the show, so if you are sensitive to curse words and brutally honest curse-word laden conversations, then stick with the lighter fare of the American version.A couple of negatives - the sound quality could have been better overall. Subtitles for some of the episodes would have been helpful too...ostensibly everyone is speaking English, but in some case with a "Up North", Scottish, or French accent, so sometimes hard to catch every word.

Love this show! I started watching on BBC America and got hooked. This DVD is great because it has seasons (series) 1 and 2 with revisits. There are scenes which are deleted from the BBC America versions (presumably for time), which is a nice addition. Plus no bleeping!

This is NOT the American version THANK GOD. These where done years ago in England where the episodes where an hour long (45 minutes with commercials) In these Ramsay is the narrator giving first hand insight that the American kitchen nightmares DRASTICALLY needs.
To be straight forward, if you like the American Kitchen Nightmares, you will LOVE the British Kitchen Nightmares 5x more. And if you HATED the American Kitchen Nightmares you will LOVE the British Kitchen Nightmares. ONE important thing. The item I ordered said volume one and two BUT there is at least one more volume that has some of the even better episodes

gordon ramsay tv/dvd's,
This review is from: Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, Vols. 1-2 (DVD)
this review goes for everything he does. it is all fantastic. if your a fan, you cant go wrong buying anything that has him in it. the only problem i have, and its my fault i guess for not getting enough information. here is an example. i like the show ER. so if i buy season 1 (i own all 11 seasons, just bought season 12), i expect to get the whole season. sounds right. right? ok, so i purchase series 1 and 2 of kitchen nightmares, and the F word. now, i was thinking i would get seasons! what i got was several episodes, one where he goes and helps, then he re visits. so you dont get the season, you get several episodes, like two or three and the re visits. thats it. that is the only problem i have. other than that, you cant go wrong with buying anything with him in it. and its great without the edits, and its uncut. i also bought his books. both on his life. it explains exactly why he is the way he is. you dont need to be a doctor to figure out his personality or why he wants people to have passion for what they do. this guy worked three jobs, washing dishes to be apart of the kitchen and pay the rent, and hope to be working with the food instead of washing it off the plates. he is the american dream. came from nothing. worked hard is an uderstatement. and then, his intelect carried him in business. dont kid yourselves. this guy could have been a doctor, or a lawyer. anything white collar if he wanted. this guy is very smart and just found out what he was meant for. not many of us get to do what we were meant for. anyway, i love watching all his tv shows. you just cant go wrong if your a fan. i plan on going to the maze soon in NY to eat, then his flagship in NY as well. so enjoy and dont even think twice for buying anything that he's in if your a fan. and if your not, well, you have no sense of humor. lol

I've been following gordon ramsay since he landed in america. With explosive-like-next-level-tactics, he drops the reality bomb on the owners in EVERY EPISODE.
For the price, this is unbeatable. There are some things you download, keep on your hard drive, and store away. This is PRICED TO OWN (about 16 eps and 8 revisits), TOTALLY WORTH IT! |
