5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning Book
Gordon Ramsay's Maze is a book you'll just want to relax and enjoy.
The photos in the book will stir up your appetite.
Gordon Ramsey keeps his restaurant somewhat simple, but many of the recipees are pretty different and exotic.
It makes me want to go straight to his restaurant and just watch and taste to my heart's desire.
This book is a must...

This book is a must have.If you are a fan of Gordon Ramsay, you need to get this book. Everything sumptuous and simple, but really most I wouldn't dare tackle in my own kitchen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Features recipes by Jason Atherton and dishes from Gordon Ramsay's world-famous Maze restaurant, January 17, 2010
This review is from: Gordon Ramsay's Maze (Hardcover)
GORDON RAMSAY'S MAZE features recipes by Jason Atherton and dishes from Gordon Ramsay's world-famous Maze restaurant. From this one might surmise it's just a collection of the restaurant's winning dishes - but it's more. They're presented as they'd be served in the restaurant and are followed by additional recipes using the same main ingredients geared to everyday meals. Home cooks will find this a fine collection based on a collection of small dishes as well as traditional two- or three-course meals, and lending libraries will appreciate the color photos throughout.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb book - Ignore the negative review, buy it!, November 25, 2009
This review is from: Gordon Ramsay's Maze (Hardcover)
This book is superb. Buy it. I did not buy it originally as the bad review skewed my decision. After I grabbed a copy from the library I have to say that this book is superb and I will shortly buy a copy for my collection.

It is a great inspiration and many of the sub recipes are great in their own right. Check out the Orange, Anise and Mango dessert. Awesome, a great sign that the chef has traveled the globe and got some exposure to flavors.

I found the Biz Book Girls's comment about pretty pictures a pretty good sign that she was missing the point.

Gordon Ramsay makes even the most elaborate of his dishes easy to make and understand. Although this cookbook is more of a fancy fare, it is still excellent for it's content. Bravo Mr Ramsay, bravo!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected..., November 8, 2009

When I purchased this book, I was expecting it to be similar to Gordon's other books. Unfortunately, this is NOT a Gordon Ramsay book!

The title says "Gordon Ramsay's Maze". Indeed, Gordon is listed as the author, and Jason Atherton is listed as a "contributor". But the fact is, Jason Atherton created the majority of these recipes, and it shows.

I'm not trying to belittle Chef Atherton. I'm sure these dishes taste delicious. I don't think Maze would have been awarded a Michelin star if the food didn't taste exceptionally good. But the presentations are most definitely NOT in the typical Gordon Ramsay style.

When I purchased this book, I was expecting to get a book BY Gordon. As I said, that's how the description is presented, and Gordon is listed as the primary author. Thus, I was expecting to see a book full of Ramsay-inspired fare. I was expecting Ramsay flavors, and perhaps even more importantly to me, Ramsay presentations. I purchase Chef Ramsay's books for inspiration. I am an aspiring chef, and I look to his books for inspiration with regards to flavor combinations and plating. The photographs are tremendously important to me as I continue to refine my own plating skills.

That's where this book fell flat. The presentations are boring and dated. They are almost all highly monochromatic. There is no height on the plate in most of the presentations, which is something I find aesthetically pleasing when it comes to plating. Some of the dishes actually look disgusting because of the way they are presented. For example, the "scrambled eggs" in the picture for the "Perfect Scrambled Eggs with Tomatoes on Toast" look something like a cross between yellow cottage cheese and something I might find in a baby's diaper. Several of the presentations contain some dark brown lumps that look unappetizingly similar to something one might clean out of a cage at a pet store.

I have not yet tried to cook any of the recipes in this book, so I cannot speak for the flavor of them. But the presentations are mostly horrendous, which is definitely something I did not expect from a book with the Gordon Ramsay name on it.
