Review

“Sensitivity, passion, strength--these are the words to define Gordon Ramsay, a man who has helped bring cooking to a point we could only dream of a few years ago.”--Ferran Adria, Chef Patron, EL Bulli

About the Author

Renowned chef Gordon Ramsay has opened a string of successful restaurants across the globe, from Italy to LA. In 2011, Ramsay launched Laurier Gordon Ramsay in Montreal, Canada, and opened Bread Street Kitchen in London's City district. Gordon has become a TV star both in the UK and internationally, with two top-rated shows in America: Kitchen Nightmares and Hell's Kitchen are into their fourth and tenth years respectively, while his latest show, MasterChef US, is now in its third season and is proving to be another massive hit with viewers. Gordon has also published a number of books, many of which have become bestsellers across the world, notably his autobiography, Roasting in Hell's Kitchen. In 2006, Gordon was awarded an OBE for services to the industry. Ramsay lives with his wife and four children in South London, along with their two bulldogs, Rumpole and Romeo.

Ignore the title, these recipes are good for evening meals too.

I've been a big fan of Gordon for some time, watching his shows, reading his autobiography etc. This is the first of his cookbooks I have owned and I am very impressed.

The food is excellent, the suggested menus work well together (although I often interchange dishes). As well as themed 'lunches' there are also little asides e.g. 5 ways with carrots, and the spiced carrots with star anise has been a big hit with our guests. I've used Gordon's honey mustard marinade a lot, and the beef casserole with mustard mash potatoes has to be one of my favourites.

And as only a moderately experienced cook, I love the timelines for the themed lunches, i.e. what you can do the day before, what to do an hour ahead, what to do just before serving.

My favourite cookbook. Until, perhaps I buy another Ramsay cookbook.

Received fast and in new condition. Be aware In his cookbooks, since Chef Ramsey is from the UK he uses measurements and terms that are not standard and in some cases not familiar to us US cooks, which is very disappointing since that means we will need to purchase equipment that reads grams and milliliters And the oven temps are in centigrade so also have to be converted. I found no conversion chart anywhere in his cookbooks, so in order to try his I'm sure excellent recipes, will require considerable time to convert!

I loved the idea for this cookbook - healthy, interesting menus for a sit down family meal. This is perfect for weeknight dinners (since most are pretty quick to get on the table) and there are a number of excellent recipes (though very heavy on the fish which i do not ever prepare).

What cuts this book down to three stars are the dreadful photos. They are often blurry and look like someone went haywire with instagram filters. But that is nothing compared to the often neon-colored backgrounds for white text in the book that are simply unreadable. there is no excuse for such poor graphic design (also many different fonts used on a page - terribly distracting).

I have many of Chef Ramsay's cookbooks and enjoy the recipes immensely. I like how they often tie-in to the style of food he suggests on Kitchen Nightmares and that are reflective of the cooking he does on his YouTube Channel (which is brilliant btw).

He has tons of fans and some pretty vocal detractors too but the proof is in the pudding and Gordon;s pudding is delish.

Unfortunately this book is (bleep)ing ugly.

I am a typical male, not a very good cook, but fortunately I know someone who is, my wife. So rather than buy the book for myself I saw it as a good opportunity to kill two birds with one stone so to speak. A present for my wife with the added attraction of getting some of Gordon's meals thrown in, without having to pay restaurant prices.

By chef's own admission the food is simple, but innovative and exciting and I have been fortunate to enjoy several of the recipes already.

I admire Mr. Ramsay for trying to coax the British public into getting round the table together on a Sunday lunch time. Whether it will ever happen in our house where the members are usually scattered to the four corners of the property, doing their own thing. A tray on the knee, or even walking around with a plate in their hand, I have my doubts.

I do remember many years ago when I lived at home with my parents that Sunday lunch was a ritual that was virtually impossible to escape from. If you were not at the table, hands and face sparkling, you wouldn't hear the last of it until Monday morning.

However I digress, the book is a cook book. So is it any good. Well like the curates egg, it is good in parts. By that I mean, or so my wife tells me, that some of the recipes are excellent and some of them are OK and some of them she thinks she can do better herself, and who am I to argue.

If you enjoy the show "The F Word" I am sure that several recipes have caught your eye. Many of them are extremely simple but yield tremendous flavor. I recommend this book to anyone that is interested in going a step up in cooking. The instructions are very clear, and many of the recipes can even be looked up on Youtube if you ever get stuck. Ramsay balances flavors so well, and doesn't care for any gimmicky recipes like many other cookbooks offer. He is about food and flavor, and this book certainly delivers that.

This book has a ton of great recipes that are easy to find and follow. I have trouble making ice cubes and found that I was preparing great dishes on the first try. Some of the recipes are a bit fancy for my taste, but there's plenty for the newbie to enjoy!

The books are written in a manner where it can be put together step by step. I have made several of the dishes from this and other Gordon Ramsey books and they all turn out great...

Wow! I've only tried a couple of F Word recipes so far and they've been both incredibly delicious and quite easy. Yes, a lot of the recipes do call for some fancypants ingredients, but dishes centered around things like duck and sea bass I save for special occasions. I'll also make substitutions like buying whatever white-flesh fish is local and reasonably priced instead of sea bass. Some recipes are so fancypants I'm unlikely to every actually try them (like fois gras or scallops). But there are plenty of other recipes that are great for every day or random weekend cooking like his red wine beef stew and garlic risotto. The recipes are usually quite simple but can take some time to prepare (hence the title). Still highly recommend for a cookbook.

Note - I do agree that some of the pages are hard to read due to the font and color choices (like white writing on pale yellow background) but those are usually just Gordon Ramsay's thoughts and introductions to recipes. The recipes themselves seem to all be clear and easy to read.
