I've owned a few Gore jackets for biking and other sports (windstopper, GoreTEX, etc.) and I'm a bit disappointed by this jacket. It does not seem quite as well thought out as many of their other jackets. The Gore Windstopper fabric is still great quality though. It does what it's made out to be, for the most part, but I would not pay a cent more for it.

Pros
+ Small fits snug enough to not flutter, but loose enough to allow for some layering (I'm 5'6" and 145 lbs).
+ Repels a great deal of water (I was still dry even after a 3h ride with pretty much constant rain).
+ Breathable, as one would expect from Gore.
+ Lightweight.

Cons,
- White sections were no longer white after a single ride (unlike previous Gore windstopper jackets I've owned, the dirt did not wash off at all).
- Back pocket tends to hang out from under the jacket when the back rides up, and everything in the mesh pocket will get wet and muddy (don't put your phone in there without a ziploc bag to protect it!) - a simple fix would be to attach the bottom of the mesh pocket to the jacket.
- Back pocket zipper feels like its going to fall apart any minute.

Nice jacket, but the large had too much material in the arms and chest. I usually find large jerseys snug, so a little surprised at this fit, which is descibed as slim on the Gore website. I'm returning and will try a medium.

This is a good jacket for its intended use that is built to last. It's not the lightest and smallest but compresses down to easily fit in a jersey pocket (but don't plan on anything other than your house key in with it). The windstopper fabric reduces wind chill about 95%, and, even without any vents, the material is remarkably breathable so you aren't marinating in your own juices at the top of a climb. I can adequately regulate temperature by slightly opening the zipper pulling up the cuffs a bit (cuffs have both elastic and velcro so comfortable and will stay put). I wouldn't want to depend on this jacket in an extended downpour, but it has kept me dry in occasional showers and on a long ride in mist and drizzle on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

It's a good fit for general cycling but not super form fitting; however, this allows adequate room for layering and year-round use and it's comfortable off and on the bike. I'm 6', 175 lbs and find the large true to size with adequate length in the sleeves and tail. I can wear it over my soft-shell cycling jacket in winter but it isn't excessively loose over just a summer jersey. There is some wind noise on the descents but it doesn't puff up like a parachute. Another good example of quality and versatility I've found in most of the Gore Bike products.

I am 6'1" and weigh 185 lbs. Normally I wear an extra large in most of my bikewear jerseys. In the case of the Gore bike products you will need to go up a size if you expect that kind of fit. I ordered an XXL in the case of the Contest Jacket and it fit perfectly. Read other reviews and I think you will see the same kind of comment. The product itself is excellent and exactly as described.

I wanted something to keep the wind off me during chilly morning rides, this fits the bill perfectly. Easily packs down into a jersey pocket when it warms up. I have been really impressed with how well this stops the wind given how light it is. Build quality is top notch.

I am 6'3", 195lbs with a 42" chest, shirt size is 16 1/2 x 35. After obsessing for a couple of days I went with the XXL based on the sizing chart on the Gore website and off of a few reviews I found on the web. When I got it the chest seemed a little bigger than I expected, but the sleeve length was just right. Thought about returning it for an XL, but I was afraid the sleeves might be too short. Turns out the extra fabric in the chest is not a problem at all with just a jersey underneath, and will probably be a benefit if I want to layer it over something warmer.

Highly recommended.

Great top but too small. Had to go a size bigger than normal but that seems to be the norm with biking gear. Would have loved it otherwise

I purchased this jacket for use riding in the rain and cold. The Gore Contest jacket will keep you very dry in the rain but what is even better is how it keeps stinging cold wind away from your body. I cycle in the winter using this jacket and a long sleeve jersey, and if it is cold enough, sometimes a thin wicking layer underneath it. Even cycling below freezing, when using layers this jacket is component to a superior system. During the early winter and late fall, it can be below 40 when I start my ride but heat up to the 50s. This jacket can be rolled down and placed in a rear pocket. It will completely fill one of your pockets but as long as you fold/roll neatly it fits perfectly.

This would have been a great jacket for me in the cooler season. However, Gore apparel seem to be made for women! This is the 2nd time I've gotten burnt will bike tops too small. I am 6', 190lb and the Large size is too small. This is a jacket, not jersey and I think it is not unreasonable to want to wear a baselayer underneath. As is, the arms are not long enough. The chest/shoulders are too restrictive, and the front is not long enough--looks ridiculous. I would have exchanged it for an XL but I'm done with Gore--I will stick to Pearl Izumi for my gear.
