There are six segments on this DVD. The cover of the DVD gives a pretty good description of each of them.

There are three workouts that focus on abs:
o Lean, Long, & Strong (12 min) - lots of isometric, pilates inspired moves. This one was the easiest one for me, and I would be likely to use it as an add-on.
o Classic Abwork (12 min) - more traditional ab work, including crunches with different arm movements, bicycles, and v-sits.
o Absolute Challenge (7 minutes) - the most advanced ab routine.

Sleek Physique (12 minutes) is all plank variations and I LOVED this segment. It is my favorite. I did have some DOMS in my hips and shoulders the next day. It is also pretty challenging and she does provide the modification of keeping your knees down if it is too difficult. Planks include:
o Full plank variations: full plank, lifting knee to chest, lifting knee across chest to opposite elbow
o Forearm plank variations: Forearm planks, single leg forearm plank pulsing leg back, raising body up and down, moving body forward and back.
o T-stand side plank on each side
o Side plank variations with forearm down: reaching arms up over and then under, hip pulses
o Reverse plank with hip pulses and then holding

Total Core Fast Blast is only 5 minutes. I think it would be more appropriate as an add-on, then a workout on it's own. It includes chair pose variations, full plank lifting one hand, crunches, and single leg bridge variations.

Metabolism Bootcamp (12 minutes) - This is the only segment I have not completed yet.

I purchased this DVD because I'm terribly out-of-shape (especially in the core region) after having two children by C-section in the last three years and not making the time to keep up my exercise routine with two youngsters at home. I love that the DVD is broken into short segments...good for busy moms who might not be able to dedicate a whole hour to exercise with no interruptions. I think the exercises were explained well and the segments were easy to follow. The music was fine to me, basically just background. I liked Suzanne Bowen...kept me going without being annoying or obnoxious and explains the moves well. My one disappointment with the DVD is that I purchased it to try to get back in shape but after attempting to do the workouts several times, I kind of feel like I have to get back in shape FIRST just in order to be able to do most of the segments! Even though it's a core workout...if your legs and arms are weak like mine are, you might have quite a bit of difficulty doing many of the exercises. That being said, Bowen does stress that you might have to work up to some of the exercises and offers easier alternatives to many of the moves. I was just a bit disappointed by how many of the exercises I really just couldn't do. I've decided to put this DVD on the back burner while I focus on some aerobic workouts to try to build up a little stamina and tone my arms and legs so I'm better able to do the exercises in the core DVD. My overall opinion is that it's a great core workout for someone who is in pretty decent shape but might be a little over-the-top for a beginner like me.

Prior to purchasing Gorgeous Core, I attended one of Suzanne's BarreAmped classes at her flagship studio, Seren Motus in Tennessee. Right away, I was hooked by Suzanne's amazing method and knew that I needed to find a way to take her ideas and techniques back to Ohio, where I live.

I also own Suzanne's 10 Minute Solutions DVD: Pilates Perfect Body; which is another incredible workout!

Gorgeous Core can be done by women and men of all ages!

While it is an intense 60 minute ab-blasting session, I find great comfort in all of the modifications that Suzanne provides throughout Gorgeous Core. I am a woman in my late 50's and fully benefit from each of the workout blasts; as not only are they difficult and result driven, they are also amazing for the overall alignment of the body...something that I have truly grown to need in my workout regime.

Suzanne takes a step by step journey on how to do abdominal work correctly and effectively. The days of doing crunches are long gone, and now I actually enjoy working my core. Since being introduced to Suzanne and her method, I have noticed a significant difference in my shape...I am longer, leaner, and my overall postural alignment is more intact now than ever.

My only regret after purchasing this DVD is that I do not live in Franklin I would be attending BarreAmped classes at Seren Motus Fitness Studios regularly!
Nevertheless, I feel fully challenged and motivated by Suzanne's Gorgeous Core and truly believe that I am on my way to having the strongest physique possible.

Suzanne Bowen's Gorgeous Core 6 Workout Blasts for Flat Abs and a Sleek Physique DVD does not disappoint. With 4 12 minute sessions, 1-5 minute session and 1 7 minute session, you can pick and choose the combination that best fits your schedule, or for a serious challenge, take on the whole DVD.

Segments are: Lean, Long and Strong; Classic Abwork, Sleek Physique, Metabolism Bootcamp, ABsolute Challenge & Total Core Fast Blast. The 12 minute segments combine elements of classic fitness moves, Pilates, planks and cardio and are not for beginners. Fast paced and challenging, it's the type of work out that makes you feel great when your done, and the next day your abs will remind you what you did. With all of the static holds, it's also the type of workout that looks much easier than it is.

Although the moves are broken up with easier alternatives, even the easy is quite challenging, so this is not a DVD for beginners. It is very important that participants heed Suzanne's warnings to listen to their own bodies and not try to push themselves to the point of causing injury. Also, if you do the whole DVD straight through the segments aren't exact in their timing, so make sure you have at least 65-70 minutes to complete the entire series.

Overall, I think this is an excellent video from an experienced instructor and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an alternative to classic Pilates or aerobics abdominal exercises.
