5.0 out of 5 stars It's good.
Well, to put it to you simply, Gorgeous Frankenstein sounds alot like Danzig's heavier stuff. The vocals I thought were pretty good, while Frankenstein did put together some pretty good riffs. Oh, and Glenn Danzig produced this album. If you like Danzig's latest recordings (666 satan's child, circle of snakes) than you should enjoy Gorgeous Frankenstein.

I'm going to keep this short. The vocals. They suck. Bad. I mean if you are a misfits fan at all you cannot say you will immediately like this. I'm going to keep this short. The vocals. They suck. Bad. I mean if you are a misfits fan at all you cannot say you will immediately like this. I myself was hoping that Doyle's return to music would be better than this wad of poo. It really sounds like bad wrestling metal and the singer sounds like a poor man's Phil Anselmo (I'm not a Pantera fan by the way). I heard a demo of the Beautiful Frankenstein track with Michale Graves on vocals and it actually sounded great. This album reminds me of why Danzig 6-8 sucked. There is just nothing exciting about this. Now there is hope: The guy who sang on this record is already gone from the band lol. Goolsby from Blitzkid is playing bass in the band and Blitzkid is probably the best thing to happen to Horror rock/punk since The Misfits themselves so hopefully with Goolsby's influence they will get a better singer and write better songs. Hell, even Blitzkids drummer is in this band now! Skip this and get a Blitzkid cd PLEEZ!

1.0 out of 5 stars C'mon...seriously...?!, October 27, 2011
This review is from: Gorgeous Frankenstein (Audio CD)
This album is awful. I like Doyle for his work in The Misfits and Kryst the Conqueror, but this is just terrible. The opening track, "Gorgeous Frankenstein" sounds like a complete rip-off of "The Abominable Dr. Phibes" by The Misfits and the psychobilly track "Speed Witch" sounds like a high school garage band is discovering their sound by just tossing chords into a friggin blender! I like Doyle and I love The Misfits, but this belongs in the file called "all time worst ideas" right beside Dr. Chud's X Ward.

This is not an album created by musicians with 20 years in the business. This is a hopeful "hook" to drag Misfits fans away. It's a pissing contest between Jerry and Doyle and Doyle lost BIG TIME! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS CD!!!!! MAY GF REST IN PEACE......sorry, Doyle...

3.0 out of 5 stars The Monster has risen, and it's mediocre at best., May 6, 2008
This review is from: Gorgeous Frankenstein (Audio CD)
I bought this cd, just to see what the new band is like. i've always been a fan of The Misfits, Samhain, and Danzig, and respected each for their individual personalities. I avoided Graves and X-Ward as those bands didn't appeal to me. However, being that I am a huge Doyle fan, I wanted to support this venture. The album has atleast 2 strong tracks, probably the first and last one. The rest are just generic "heavy, spooky" tracks. Being that this is a Danzig produced album, you can definetly see his influence on the record. Th session musician doesn't do a bad job, and I have yet to hear their new singer, so I can not pass too much judgemnt there. If you wanna support Doyle, buy the record. Maybe the next effort will be better. This one, as it stands, is a solid record, but nothing groundbreaking.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could be better with a different vocalist..., December 26, 2007
By
This review is from: Gorgeous Frankenstein (Audio CD)
CD Pros: Sound quality is godly; music is super heavy!!

CD Cons: The vocalist totally blows. Sounds like Glenn Danzig was standing right next to this guy in the recording booth coaching him on how exactly to do his vocals.

Overall, would be a better album with a different vocalist. I'd love to see these guys live since I heard the vocalist on this album is no longer with the band (wonder why?).

1.0 out of 5 stars In one word: unlistenable., December 18, 2007

This is a completely juvenile release and I've heard garage band cassette demos with higher production values. I would have given this release zero stars if it were an available option. While I'm not exactly a fan of Doyle's work with the 90s version of The Misfits (and the vast majority of the original Misfits songs he is credited for playing on were actually played by Glenn Danzig), this album makes "American Psycho" and "Famous Monsters" seem like Dylan's "Highway 61 Revisited" in comparison. I feel as though I should sue for the time I lost listening to this.

2.0 out of 5 stars This Monster Should Have Remained in the Grave..., November 27, 2007

This review is from: Gorgeous Frankenstein (Audio CD)
I didn't want to believe that an album I've been waiting so long for was a complete and utter disappointment, but alas, it was. Gorgeous Frankenstein's self-titled release is completely uninspired; combining rehashed Danzig riffs with a lead singer who obviously has a severe case of Danzig envy, (and who sounds like a 2nd rate horror rock vocalist), I found myself completely bored with this album. I don't know if this was done intentionally because Glenn produced the album, but between the music and the vocals, I just couldn't help but think maybe there was too much of his influence on the album.

Don't get me wrong, there was a time (about 25 seconds of "Man or Monster") that I enjoyed myself. There was a sense of excitement and true energy when they started tearing it up and showed that heavy metal flowed through their veins. Saying that, I was hoping that Gorgeous Frankenstein would be heavier than it is. I always felt Doyle brought a metal element to the Misfits (especially on their later releases) and was hoping this would be his outlet for that but unfortunately that's not the case.

Honestly, I can't think of a reason to recommend this album to a friend or fellow Doyle fan other than maybe the whole novelty aspect of it.

It's alive, and I must say this album is quite a monster. Gorgeous Frankenstein really took me by surprise. By the sound of this record Doyle should have started on solo work much sooner. This is by far the best album to debut this October, just a great Halloween treat. Gorgeous Frankenstein consists of none other but Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein (former ghoulish axe man of the Misfits), George Frankenstein, and Landon. These lads sure do rock the crypt.

Doyle with the help of the dark Angel himself Glenn Danzig recently made history when Doyle came out on Danzig's last tour and the two of them did 30 minutes of Misfits tunes live. The first time the fiends played together in over 20 years. Since that time the two have rekindled their friendship and Glenn Danzig has produced Gorgeous Frankenstein's debut album on his label Evilive records. Danzig's influence is just dripping in this album and in my mind it's a good thing. The best way I can describe the sound of this record is if one were to combine Graves period Misfits with Danzig's solo work. Vocals do have a strong similarity to Danzig's, that bluesy deep wail type of style. Doyle's guitar work is top notch. He delivers a heavy sludgy up-tempo guitar work that gives that monstrous style of horror punk and metal that the Misfits, Samhain, and Danzig have offered in last 25 years.

The opening track "Gorgeous Frankenstein" is a fast upbeat opener that basically lays down the whole feel of the album. Tracks such as "Man or Monster" and "Reverse of God" show and old school Black Sabbath influence, such as the songs start a bit on the slow heavy side and around the end of the song Doyle breaks into a Toni Iommi like shred of blistering riffs. The last two tracks are the real coffin openers here. "Speedwitch" just rips; it has the feeling that Doyle combined the intensity of "Green Hell" with the heaviness of "A long way back from hell". "Made in Hell" is great album closer it continues with that brooding Sabbath like style and ends with face melting riffs.

Now there are people that might have the problem with this record sounding somewhat like Danzig's work but for me it works. Doyle has still kept to his own style by adding his own ingredients to the witch's brew. Listening to this album it reminds me why I love the Misfits, Samhain, and Danzig, or just plain horror rock in general because every time I listen to it makes me feel like its Halloween. So put on your face paint, grab your costume, put in your favorite horror movie and blast Gorgeous Frankenstein like it's old hallow's eve.

departs from the misfits you can hear the danzig element but lets forget this stuff.solid cd good solid songs but not legendary, he put his neck out with alot of new influences showing.after i listen I'm not sorry for buying like dr.chuds x-ward and easier to comperhend and proably find it way into the stereo more then michale graves.Danzig crept into this cd too much but good to hear the back up vox it mixed well.a couple times I thought that dr.chud may have been behind the drum kit.I think in the future doyle may just show to be a threat to jerrys new misfits maybe.
