Book Description

December 1959
It was five o'clock in the afternoon. There can be no doubt whatever as to that. Old Agnes may say what she pleases--she has a habit of doing so--but I know for certain (because I looked at my watch not ten minutes before it happened) that it was exactly five o'clock in the afternoon when I received a most singular and every way remarkable visit--a visit which has left an indelible impression on my memory, as well it might; for, independent of its singularity and unexpectedness, one of its results was the series of strange adventures which are faithfully detailed in this volume.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Sequel to a Great Book, December 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I loved the Coral Island and I have read it several times since I was in middle school and I first found it amongst my mother's books. Just the other day I found out that all these years there has been a sequel to the Coral Island that contains the same characters, the same spirit of adventure and the same charming writing style.

No one should let this book pass them by if they have enjoyed classic literature like the Coral Island, The Swiss Family Robinson, Treasure Island or Robinson Crusoe. Especially do not let the review by Richi sway you. This book was written in the 1800s when gorillas were not endangered and hunting them was considered as appropriate as hunting deer.

This review is from: The Gorilla Hunters (Paperback)
i agree with the previous reader's review that the subject matter in this book may be [is] inappropriate for our times. i read this story first in high-school and its a great adventure ride from start to finish. i haven't read it since but decide to purchase another hard-copy as i lost mine. i never thought much about looking up other titles from this author but, after learning that 'the coral islands' is a prequel to this work. i plan on reading that as well.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Gorilla hunters, February 3, 2010
This is the sickest book I have ever heard of. In a time when we are trying to save and care for our endangered and our vulnerable planet, a book like this comes out. Should not even be published or sold.
