This is my second Gorilla Rack. My first one is a single drawer unit, in my garage. I purchased it about 5 years ago and have given it a workout, and it is still in very good shape. I liked the first one so well, that when I needed an additional work bench for the basement I just had to get another Gorilla. The Gorilla Rack assembles easily, you will need to assemble it on a flat surface, and beat the slide-in connections with a rubber mallet. Very few tools are needed in the assembly process.

Once assembled it is strong, stout, and does not wabble.

The assembly instructions are very good, however they fail to clearly state that the peg board goes behind the steel supports, and not in front of them. Maybe, the instruction writer thought that was obvious, (like "place pointed end of nail on wood and hit with hammer".)

I wanted an affordable workbench that could be assembled, (I didn't have time to build one myself.) This one comes with 2 shallow drawers. It's easy to assemble and sturdy. Mostly, it fits together with the help of a rubber mallet.

Cons:

It comes packed well, but not well enough as a corner of the wood top was dinged during shipping.

All the wood needs to be sealed if you are using it in a damp environment.

The pegboard needed bolts that were not included yet indicated in the instructions.

To secure the main work surface you have to get under the tabletop and mark the screwholes with a pencil, pre-drill, and screw with your own screws! Why not just pre-drill and give the customer some screws. Would that kill them?

A company like Ikea would never allow an incomplete product like this out the door. It betrays a certain indifference to the customer.

Generally speaking, I like this workbench. However, there were issues which were less than pleasing...

1) Like many others, I received boards which had been damaged. Both the main work surface and peg board had damaged corners. The damage was not severe enough for me to really care (I had anticipated this based on other reviews and had included that in the cost/benefit analysis before purchasing), but it is still a little disappointing. So, if you think you might buy this, expect damaged goods.

2) A few pieces were bent out of shape, so I had to fix them. The metal is not really all that substantial, so doing this is not a difficult task (and I was able to do this with a rubber mallet and my bare hands). Again, though, it is disappointing to have to repair a new item.

3) The gliders for the drawer simply would not fit. Perhaps I was too weak or was handling them to delicately, but whatever the reason, it was not possible for me to get them mounted as shipped. To remedy this, I took a mini pry bar and bent the clips slightly so that they would slide into the mounts.

4) I anticipate that I will need to replace the work surface. This isn't really a problem with the product, as I knew what the surface was made of before I purchased it, but for the sake of completeness, I wanted to mention it. I think, though, it will take a while to damage the surface significantly, so by then I won't mind spending a little more to get a maple replacement top.

That being said, once I got everything together, I was pleased with the workbench and don't suspect that I will have any issues with it. So, make sure you plan on having to tweak some things and take that into consideration before purchasing, but the price seems to be reasonable and if you are afraid of having to do some slight modifications, then you probably don't really need a workbench!

being in the airforce my familly and i move alot we needed something sturdy that can be assembled taken apart again and reassembled easily, it has moved with us several times now and is still really sturdy, if we should decide to retire from the military and settle down the we might screw down the boards later on since the holes are there so it is an option, the peg board goes on from the back and is over sized witch is a good thing cuz i crushed one of the corners during its first move so we just adjust where we put it on so it doesn't show

Since I don't tear down car engines, I needed only a light duty bench and wanted one like this for storage as well as workspace. There is a similarly configured model at Harbor Freight and on Ebay for about $120, and I was thinking about going that route. But I had a chance to look at that bench in person at my local Harbor Freight. For a little more money, this Gorilla Rack bench is light years ahead of that other bench in terms of engineering, quality of materials, fit and finish, and stability. It's also a foot longer which equals more workspace and storage. The only thing I would add would be a center support for the bottom shelf. But the screw holes are there, and it's therefore no problem to cut a piece of wood and screw it in place. This bench makes the cheaper one look like junk. I paid a little more and got a lot more.

As other reviewers has stated, the particle board bench tops are lame. Moved the 7/16th thick board which was suppose to be for the storage shelf to the top and glued a piece of 3/4 plywood over it. Extended the outside edges of the plywood 1.5 inches on the sides and front, to creating a lip so projects could be clamped down. Added some bolts to hold it on and now its more of work bench. Used the 3/4 board meant for the top, for the bottom shelf. Found the bench wiggled to much when sawing something in the vice clamp I added, so diagonal angles were added as bracing for both front legs and to the back side which made it quite stable.. Spent another $100 plus for the angles and plywood. Having to add all this was the reason for the 4 stars.
