This review is from: Gorilla Rack GR5-3012-5IMP 5-Shelf 30-by-12-by-60-Inch Shelving Unit, Black (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased three of these units as the size was correct for my application, and the gorilla rack name. Over the last several years I have put together about 11 gorilla rack systems. I have gotten used the the sturdy nature of the shelving and the ease of assembly. This rack is not like that. The metal uses for the posts and shelf supports is much thinner, 18 gauge I believe. It can be bent with fingers.
The fit and finish is good. When assembled in the 5 shelf configuration, mine have the tendency for the upper and lower posts to slide adjacent to each other, rather than the upper sitting on top of the lower. This has the effect for the upper set of shelves to poorly secured. I put 40 pounds bags on the upper 2 shelves (much lower then the 250 pound rating), and wiggled the shelf, and the upper part became even less secured. Customer support had no solution for my issue in this size rack. In the 3 shelf units I bought, I had 4 long shelf supports that were too short. Customer support provided replacements, however it did take multiple tries to get the correct ones. I asked to speak to a manager to share my concerns about diluting the reputation of gorilla rack with this type of product, but never got the promised callback.

Imported Crap,
This review is from: Gorilla Rack GR5-3012-5IMP 5-Shelf 30-by-12-by-60-Inch Shelving Unit, Black (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have three larger Gorilla shelves that went together quickly and look great. I bought this smaller unit for a corner in my garage. Several problems occured while assembling the unit. (1) When pounding the pins into place, the metal bent with a rubber mallet; this didn't happen with the larger units. Luckily, the metal could be bent back into shape. (2) One of the eyelets where the pins are secured was too wide and would not hold the pin. (3) While assembling the last shelf support, the metal buckled, so that side will go against the wall. I didn't give the unit 1 star because it will function, but its not worth the money. There must be better alternatives for shelving.
New info: The reason it buckled is because the shelf is too short on one side! ZERO STARS.

I bought this b/c I needed a short depth for a small closet. Directions unclear after the 2nd step b/c it's directions for 2 different configurations with no differentiations between them. The pins wouldn't stay in place. I'd hammer one side and the other would come apart. I finally got the first four pieces set, but when I moved to the 2nd step 3 of the four pieces came apart & wouldn't fit back together because the holes for the pins had been bent from the unit falling apart. I used a screwdriver to bend the metal back so the pins would slide back in. We're now using rubber cement to hold each section separately, so it took 2 days to completely assemble. I would have taken it back, but I can't find a smaller depth shelf anywhere.

This is NOT a Gorilla shelf. We purchased several true Gorilla shelves approximately 12 years ago and they were WONDERFUL and cost the same as the one I just bought from Amazon. The old ones were VERY thick, heavy duty STEEL. I don't know what these are made of but it is NOT HEAVY DUTY. It's GARBAGE. Anyone giving this product a good review obviously works for the company. Gorilla shelves should now be called flimsy, thin, unstable, worthless, made in China, metal garbage. Save your money or try to buy an old used one.

I bought two for about $32 each and got free shipping, but even when not on sale you'd find it difficult to find anything like them for the price (especially at this narrow depth). My teenager put them together in about 15 minutes each (note: you need a rubber mallet). They're fine for the garage or basement, but not really nice enough for indoors.

I have several Gorilla Rack shelfs in my garage and basement. These are the heavier duty shelf units and I expected the smaller shelf unit to be equally sturdy albeit smaller. That was simply not the case. I ordered the unit for a cold cellar where weight per shelf would be limited to fifty lbs or so. The gorilla rack will certainly meet this need however when compared to the plastic shelves that fly together quickly and easily the gorilla rack is simply not worth the extra $ and hassle. Since the shelf supports are a lighter grade of steel than the heavier duty models I had to be especially careful to prevent the supoports from bending when using my rubber mallet to tap the joint pins into place. Would I order another - probably not. would I order the hd gorilla rack - absolutely.

Purchased this for a garage storage solution and it has worked as expected. Putting it together was a bit of a challenge by myself, but two people would be most ideal. The shelving wood boards would be better if they were not just placed, but, instead "nailed down" (this lowered the rating by one star).

Some assembly is required and some strength, but an hour or so later the shelves were assembled. The rack is sturdy, enough to take at least 100 pounds evenly shared.
It looks really good. I had two junk boxes that were about 20 pounds each, have the cat food for the month, detergents, a couple of boxes with soup cans in them (I buy them in bulk). It's definitely sturdy. I'm not going to be an idiot and start to swing it, it's not a hammock. But it does the job. If you're planning to buy this for garage work perhaps you'd want to get a stronger one, but for light weight tools this should be good. DO NOT USE if you have hyper active children around, it's not heavy enough to be pulled (or climbed on) and the child will surely bring it down on himself. I have it locked away from my 4 year old.

Decent Cheaper Shelves,

I have two of these units around, and I like them. They're pretty sturdy (much better than plastic & those cheap tin ones), and I haven't found anything comparable for the price. I didn't have any trouble with assembly or incorrect pieces. They both went up fine, and can support a good amount of weight.

I needed a good shelving unit and this one looked good with the added bonus of a reasonable price. Unfortunately during assembly I discovered that one of the long supports for one of the shelf units was a half inch too short, which made it unusable, and left one of the shelves supported on only three sides. I contacted customer service and was advised that this unit was imported from China and a replacement part was not available. It was too much hassle to tear it apart and return it for replacement so it will have to do until I can figure out a homemade fix. The unit itself is very sturdy and functional.
