As a PKD fan, I was intrigued enough to watch this so-called documentary. It was not that interesting and I didn't watch it through to the end. The background music was totally unnecessary and annoying, the crudely made and slow graphic animation that was repeated many times, in order to present a fact was a distraction and some of the interviewees could have been left off this project altogether as they didn't really have much to add. Just having known someone doesn't necessarily mean that you have anything to say.

I'm not sure I want to read or see an exposé about an author with all the lurid details of their life in order to enjoy the books they read. I would have been satisfied with a background movie that would have been leaned more towards the artistic and literary aspects of the author. In the case of PKD, his life and lifestyle did influence his writing, but it wasn't all autobiographical. there could have been more a discussion of his writing style, etc.

I found this movie to be tedious, meandering, somewhat juvenile, amateurish in production and most content.

I wouldn't bother with this unless you are a PKD fanatic and feel the need to know everything about someone, warts and all.

Lots of details about his life that I did not know about. Good first hand accounts from close people and friends of his. Did not know that his friends considered him a philosopher.

Nothing new here to those familiar with PKD. Somewhat irritating in its presentation of same to those not familiar.
Some great comments by surprise visitors to the film, which helps offset the irritation of the main presentation's structure.
The content suffered for the sake of the presentation pattern, as there were grateful but alas too few, injections of the master's voice.
Overall the film was worth its salt though, and held its own against other presentations of the rather difficult to apprehend and personally. very eccentric author. It is probably for this reason, most people's first exposures to PKD is through third party interpretations of his work, often obtained for pennies on the dollar.

I am not sure when most of the footage was taken. It looks a bit old. The entire documentary is the type where the makers sit quietly behind the camera, during the movie anyway, and friends and colleagues of PKD give their opinions and feelings about his life and death.
I found it to be informative. There was a repeating feature I didn't care for much where they have a cartoon figure of PKD mouthing sound bites from, most likely, the tapes of the Rolling Stone magazine interview.

If you are a fan, or would like to know more about PKD, it's worth watching.

You can never never get enough insight into a unique being like Phil Dick. These people who knew him so well give some glimpses I hadn't read about before but each reiterates what I just said. I loved the stories and his own voice parts too.

The good: Interviews with people who had face-to-face conversations with Philip K Dick. A lot of good anecdotes and insight.

The bad: The format, editing, and production values made the whole thing pretty boring.

I have some complaints about the animated sequences used to deliver information (namely that they were a bit long and overused), but overall it's a great documentary describing PKD's experiences/ideas.
