Editorial Reviews

Review

Toby Jones has opened my eyes to the fact that God communicates through popular culture. The Gospel According to Rock has helped me hear God's word in the music I listen to, whether it's a Beatles song or a Springsteen anthem. --David Crouse, Film Producer, The Magic Never Ends: The Life and Work of C.S. Lewis

The Gospel According to Rock should be on everyone's reading list. For all who are spiritual but not necessarily religious, Jones affirms many spiritual things we've experienced in our own lives through creation, music, collective consciousness, and a master plan. You'll find yourself singing some of your favorite rock songs with a new understanding of both the rock legends who wrote them and the Big Guy himself. --Roger Tallman, Emmy Winning Composer/Producer, Tallman Music, New York

About the Author

Toby Jones, a pastor by day and a rock-n-roller by night, is uniquely qualified to explore secular rock's surprising connections with the Christian gospel. Not only is Jones a Princeton-trained theologian, but he's also been performing rock music professionally for over 30 years from Cleveland, Ohio to Hampton, New Hampshire. In addition to his many musical accomplishments, Toby has taught English and poetry at some of the nation's top prep schools, including Phillips Exeter. He currently writes rock reviews for national magazines from his home in Harbor Springs, Michigan, where he resides with his wife Molly and their two children, Miles and Liza. They're anxiously awaiting the arrival of their third child in early January of '08. Toby is the Associate Pastor of The First Presbyterian Church of Harbor Springs.

what a great book. Toby Jones nailed it. He discusses his Christian beliefs without any air of superiority (he doesn't believe that other faiths are condemned), and tying rock music into his beliefs made this book one with potential mass appeal. I read about it in my church newsletter and was immediatly intrigued since I am a follower and also a lover of all kinds of music, rock included. This book was very well written and I read the whole thing in one sitting. It was a great way to bring in the New Year. I highly recommend this book to anyone, not just Christians who are wondering how rock music can inspire them.
