"Blue Ribbon Bluegrass",
By
This review is from: Gospel Bluegrass Homecoming, Vol. 2 (DVD)
In the opening minutes Bill Gaither introduces us to the scenic wonders of Clinch Mountain, Virginia, and talks about how this area would produce "a sound that would revolutionize American music", and in this gathering of superb musicians, we get to hear this marvelous "sound".Here is the play list: Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder: "I'm Ready to Go", a fast number with virtuoso flying fingers, and "Are You Afraid to Die ?", a plaintive song that is my kind of bluegrass. The Easters sing the sweet and lovely "Lord, Send Your Angels", and in acappella, "Rivers of Babylon". Ricky Skaggs, Ronnie McCoury, Doyle Lawson and the one and only Marty Stuart perform a blazing instrumental, "Rawhide". Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives treat us to "Lord, I'm Coming Home" and then are joined by Connie Smith for "Clinging to a Saving Hand".

Even Better Than Volume One,

I just hoped this would be as good as volume one but think it may actually be better. The music is played in a heartfelt way that you just don't find anywhere else. You won't go wrong buying either volume but you may want to start with this one.

GREAT WITH VOL. 1,
By Charla Weiser (Ferny Creek, Victoria Australia) - See all my reviews

This DVD is bluegrass at it's bluest! All the artists are true performers and this is a must-have for bluegrass fans. Every song is just excellent, I can't fault one single, solitary thing in it. The bonus segment at the end (also on vol.1) includes the Carter Family and some history of their music. There's some great singing on it, too. I now have both volumes and really enjoy watching them. It's just like being there!

Skip the 5 star rating. You cannot leave a comment or review unless you rate an item 1-5 stars.
This will make the 3rd time I've attempted to order this exact item from a Marketplace Dealer. The 2 previous attempted orders were canceled by the Marketplace Dealers. Can't understand why, no reason given by Amazon.com each time I was notified that my order was canceled. Just be aware that if you order this item you may be disappointed by a cancellation just as I was. Maybe the 3rd attempt will prove to be a more positive experience.

Bill Gaither A "Gospel Bluegrass" Homecoming Vol.2 Dvd,
By Gary Covington "Southern Rocker" (Louisiana, U.S.A.) - See all my reviews (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Gospel Bluegrass Homecoming, Vol. 2 (DVD)
This is a very good Gospel Bluegrass concert dvd. Volume one in this series is also very good. Note this series is different from the 2008 release of Bill Gaither's "Country" Bluegrass series. This concert dvd features: Ralph Stanley, Doyle Lawson, Vestal Goodman, Rhonda Vincent, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Jeff and Sherri Easter, the Issacs, Gaither Vocal Band, Ricky Scaggs, and Del McCoury.
The Dvd starts at the homesite of A.P.Carter of the bluegrass pioneering Carter Family. It has a song set list of 23 songs and last approximately 90 minutes. It is co-hosted by Marty Stuart and Bill Gaither. The entire concert is very good, but some highlights I liked included: "I'm Ready to Go" by Ricky Scaggs and Kentucky Thunder, "I'm Going to Heaven" by Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, "He ain't Never Done Me Nothin' But Good" by the Issacs(Dottie Rambo told her it was okay to use a double negative down south - It's a great song), " Recovering Pharisee" by Del McCoury and his band, "Rawhide" by Ricky Scaggs, Ronnie McCoury, Doyle Lawson and Marty Stuart, "Rock of Ages" by Cynthia Clawson, "Rank Strangers to Me" by Ralph Stanley, "Lord I'm Coming Home" by Marty Stuart and his fabulous superlatives, and others. Overall, this is a great gospel bluegrass concert, it is great music with a great Gospel message. I recommend any of these Bill Gaither Gospel or Country Bluegrass Dvds.

Qualifies as one of the BEST of Homecoming Specials,

This review is from: Gospel Bluegrass Homecoming, Vol. 2 (DVD)
What I consider one of the best Gaither Homecoming Concerts, is that TWO Volume Gospel bluegrass Homecoming. Some of the more known bluegrass performers join the members of the Homecoming Friends. Ricky Skaggs, made a successful career in the Country Music world. But, he also has won bluegrass awards with his group, the Kentucky Thunder. He begins this Vol. 2 with "I'm Ready to Go" and a beautiful slow ballad, "Are you Afraid to Die". Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver perform a capella "I'm Going Home to Heaven"; the Isaacs, a popular bluegrass group, performing often with the Gaithers sing a very tender, beautiful song "Another Soldier Down" by a smooth male voice and "He Ain't Never Done Me Nothin' But Good". Someone new to me was the Del McCoury Band and his voice is a little high for me, but they do "Recovering Pharisee". Jeff Easter chats about being a fan of the Lewis Family with Little Roy. Sheri Easter is daughter of Polly of the Lewis Family. I really enjoy this bluegrass group and they sing "I Plan to Meet You There." Marty Stuart, with his Fabulous Superlatives a well-known country bluegrass player and lover of gospel music, with his deep voice does a wonderful " Lord, I'm Coming Home". Connie Smith, wife of Mary Stuart with her powerful voice sings "Clinging to a Saving Hand". From the Homecoming Friends, the Easters, "Lord, Send Your Angels; and a way too short "Rivers of Babylon". I cannot understand why I never hear the full version of that. Vestal Goodman sings my favorite, "Jesus Hold My Hand" and the Easters join in. I really enjoyed the voice of Guy Penrod with the Gaither Vocal Band "Knowing You'll Be There". As usual, Cynthia Clawson sings beautiful with the classic "Rock of Ages" and another one, "Hear The Voice Of My Beloved". Other music includes: "Rank Strangers To Me" with Ralph Stanley and The Clinch Mountain Boys; "Workin' On A Building" and "Tommorrow" with Jerry & Tammy Sullivan who have initially worked with Marty Stuart; "John" and "Gospel Train" by Mountain Heart; "Take Me In Your Lifeboat" by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band And Friends. The treat is here when Marty Stuart takes Bill Gaither to the homesite of The Carter Family family and sings with family members. This is a special Homecoming Friends gathering, one of the best!! If you like the combination of gospel and bluegrass, you will sure to enjoy.....Rizzo

This vidio is the usual good work-enjoyed the bonus footage as much as the regular feature. Recommend to others who like the old country bluegrass gospel sound. Am waiting for some more similar and the new video of the Signature Sound group that will be out shortly.

If you are really looking for bluegrass music, the title of this DVD will completly mislead you. Not much real bluegrass and what they did have was not that well performed. Played once and now it just sits.
