4.0 out of 5 stars neat book, January 14, 2005
This review is from: The Gospel Cinderella (Hardcover)
The Gospel Cinderella is a legend that in many ways resembles the classic fairy tale Cinderella.
Queen Mother Rhythm leader of the great gospel choir has a daughter. She is singing the baby to sleep by the river and a hurricane comes up and sends the baby down the river. The mother searches everywhere but can find the baby. The baby is found by Crooked Foster Mother who has 2 kids of her own. She takes the baby in and names her Cinderella because she so dirty. As Cinderella grows she is made to do all the cooking and cleaning in the home. She is mistreated. As years go by Queen Mother Rhythm holds a searches for a new leader for the Great Gospel Choir. Cinderella sneaks her way into the contest but leaves before anyone knows it's her. The prince goes on a search and find her and they lead the choir together and live happily ever after.
The book was really neat. My mother and I read all sort of versions of Cinderella and enjoy comparing the story to the fairy tale classic.
This book is an excellent addition to your multi cultural children's collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Cinderella to Emulate, April 13, 2008
By
This review is from: The Gospel Cinderella (Hardcover)
What a refreshing take on the Cinderella story! Instead of relying on her beauty to snag a prince, who will sinlge handedly make her life happily ever after, this Cinderella actually has a talent and uses that talent to reunite with her mother and find her rightful place in the world. The prince plays a secondary role. And isn't that the way life works, after all? Our daughters need to feel empowered by their own abilities and not rely on mere beauty or the whims of a man to make their lives complete. Oh, and the illustrations are just as beautiful -- icing on the cake! I'm on a quest now to find more books like this....
