Lamsa has helped me understand the LORD'S teachings from an Aramaic person's point of view and the context of that view. My reading now is more compassionate about the relationships between men and women and what customs are different from a western point of view. A must read. I appreciated the explanation of the Loaves and Fishes, where I can see the bearing of fruit the Spirit so desires, inorder for miracles to happen.

Disappointed,
By N. Shannon, BTh, Mast BibStudies. Doctoral Ca... (East Coast, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gospel Light: An Indispensable Guide to the Teachings of Jesus and the Customs of His Time (Paperback)
If you are looking for very basic insight, this could be useful to you. However, as a Seminary student, I was totally disappointed in this publication. The so called 'insight' was misnamed. A good old commentary is much more useful as well as a good 'Manners of Biblical Times' type book which will give you real understanding of ancient times in Eastern countries, mainly ancient Judea. Being well versed in the customs and common practices in ancient times is essential when studying Scripture since the first century church is just that, first century, but more importantly, it is staged in the Eastern world where culture and practices were and are very different than what is practiced and understood in the western world. This type of understanding is absent in this book. The material is elementary at best, some questionable and certainly outdated. The worst part is the lack of any kind of footnotes denoting the origin of material. Credibility is important, especially when studying God's Word.
