Excellent Catholic Study Bible Series, December 11, 2009
This review is from: Gospel of Mark: Ignatius Study Bible-RSV (The Ignatius Catholic Study Bible, 2nd Catholic Edition, Revised Standard Version) (Paperback)
This is one volume of a very good, affordable 10-volume study bible series. It is accessible as well as scholarly (I know Dr. Hahn is a well educated religious writer and Protestant convert to Catholicism with Ph.D. in systematic theology). The notes are very orthodox theologically. The questions in the review sections are thoughtful. The size of these volumes are perfect for me and since the New Testament is broken into 10 volumes it is much easier to carry an individual volume for current study, though those who like to write in their study Bibles will find little room for their notes. I usually just read library versions of the theology works rather than buy them, as I have the Navarre Study Bible (another excellent, but more expensive series). But I found this series is very worthwhile and though a single volume covering the New Testament is rumored for next year, I prefer the individual books. I've recently purchased this volume as well as the Gospels of Matthew, Luke and John and the volume that covers the First, Second, and Third Letters of St. John, and the Revelation to John. I intend to use these for personal study as well as for the RCIA and adult religious continuing education classes I assist in teaching and intend to eventually purchase all 10 volumes.

Good resources inaccessible to all, October 4, 2007
This review is from: Gospel of Mark: Ignatius Study Bible-RSV (The Ignatius Catholic Study Bible, 2nd Catholic Edition, Revised Standard Version) (Paperback)
These Bible study resources (Ignatius series) are excellect. The print is so small, however, that those with even mild eye challenges cannot use the guides without magnification. They ought to correct this.

i read a lot of scott hahn so i decided to read his notes on the new testament and genesis...
i read them, i love them!!!
each front of one has the author - not who he was, but everybody he could be! then he goes on to explain all the main couldbes of the author, and why most picked the author they picked... and then the church's answer to it...
he explains the layout of the book, who it was written to/for, and why...
in the notes, at the bottom of each page of the book, the notes are abundant...some notes, because if you put in every note on every thing you end up with...the catechism, lol! no seriously the notes are worth reading, especially "contents and unity", "living tradition", "analogy of faith", topical essays, word studies, and charts...
i like curtis mitch, too...but the intro to the gospels, etc, arent in the individual books, and the study questions for understanding and for application arent in the new testament...
im looking forward to the old testament coming out individually and the old testament as whole...
also some (i dont know how many or how to order them) comes in large, easy to read format! great for stroke, lol!
