Latter-Day Sunday School,
By Amaranth "music fan" (Northern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gospel Principles (Paperback)
"Gospel Principles" is a standard Sunday school textbook written by- and for- Mormons. It provides fascinating insights into the Mormon faith from the inside. It's more useful than an outsider's approach, though it has some interesting omissions.
"Gospel Principles" discusses pre-existence, eternal marriage, and the three levels of glory (telestial, terrestrial, and celestial) One gets a sense of what Mormons experience on a Sunday morning. There are discussion questions, quotes from various prophets (presidents of the Church),and "additional scriptures." The book touches on controversial teachings-but it doesn't go into juicy topics such as Kolob and polygamy. It does discuss that Heavenly Father is an exalted man, that marriage is necessary for entry to the Celestial Kingdom, that men have the potential to become gods, and that Jesus and Lucifer were feuding brothers in pre-existence. It's a fascinating introduction to the Latter-Day Saint faith.

Basic Curriculum of LDS Beliefs,
By
This review is from: Gospel Principles (Paperback)
For over ten years, Gospel Principles has been the Sunday School manual used to teach new members and those considering membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons). It is being used during 2010 and 2011 as the manual for weekly Relief Society and adult Priesthood lessons.
The introduction contains a gentle reminder to teachers using the manual that their teaching will be more effective is they love those they teach, teach by the Spirit, teach the doctrine, and invite diligent learning from those they teach. The book chapters outline and explain basic principles of LDS belief with reference to scriptures and other LDS publications. The 47 chapters are organized into ten units: --1. Our Premortal Life with God --2. Leaving the Presence of God --3. Communication between God and Man --4. Jesus Christ as Our Savior --5. The Church of Jesus Christ --6. The Gospel of Jesus Christ --7. Perfecting Our Lives --8. Family Salvation --9. The Second Coming of Jesus Christ -10. Life After Death Each chapter ends with suggested questions for classroom discussion or individual study. Those with web access can obtain this information without purchasing the book. It is available online from the LDS dot org home page by following the links: Gospel Library, Lessons, Sunday School. This online version contains the complete text and includes hyperlinks to scriptural references for navigational convenience. It is also easy to print out each chapter for offline reading. This book is recommended to those seeking to understand the basic doctrines and principles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Such readers may also consider The Book of Mormon or The Book of Mormon : A Very Short Introduction.

Fullness of Jesus Christ's Gospel--In concise form!,
By
This review is from: Gospel Principles (Paperback)
If you desire a beautifully written book which ties together BOTH The Holy Bible and The Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price through vivid examples, pictures, and chapter and verse footnotes, THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU!
Please understand: The fullness of the Gospel exists in all of these Sacred Scriptures -- they complement each other and bring us closer to Jesus Christ and His valuable Commandments. I am not a Latter-Day Saint, I am a Catholic. Yet, I have this book and count it a very valuable poessession. It has deeply enriched my Christian walk since The Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price FURTHER DESCRIBE and ELABORATE on The Holy Bible. Sadly, people are kept away from a closer walk with Almighty God because they are fooled by the devil and fervently fear any additional holy Scripture beyond The Bible. Thus, they quench The Holy Spirit and only know a small sliver of God's magnificence. One can take the Christian religion as far as they want. God doesn't have limits. Don't box Him in with 66 books (or 72 books for Catholics). |
