I chose Gospel Treason for my neighborhood Bible study . After meeting for 3 years it can be challenging to find a book that will push us to grow in our walk with Christ...WOW!!!! Did this ever challenge us? Gospel Treason truly gets at the heart issues behind why we continually do what we do. I highly recommend doing this book to tackle together with a friend or spouse whom you know inside and out and knows you equally well... If you Approach this book with humility and a sincere desire to take a real look at what's keeping you for walking more deeply with the Lord, this book could change your life!!!

Idolatry is serious in the eyes of the Lord, because in idolatry we abandon the gospel as our first love and begin to treasure and cling to something else as our reason for living. In his helpful book Gospel Treason Betraying the Gospel With Hidden Idols Pastor Brad Bigney writes to tell his own story of struggle with idolatry and how he came to a deeper understanding of the Gospel. During a particular season in his life he and his wife started to see a biblical counselor. He states that during this time "things began to change radically. Not that he introduced us to the gospel--we had both been Christians from a young age. I was the pastor of a local church; we still read our Bibles and prayed; neither of us had knowingly abandoned the faith--but we had replaced our Savior with idols, and these became the driving force in our hearts. We had fallen into the trap that God warned his people about so many years ago when he said in Jer. 2:13, "for my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water."

Gospel Treason is organized around three parts. The first part of the book explores the question of "So what's the problem?" by examining how idolatry starts with the Gospel drift, wrecks havoc in your relationships and changes your identity. Part two follows up part one with focusing in on the solution to idolatry. Here the author encourages us to examine ourselves in light of the Bible's teaching about idolatry and turn from idolatry to Jesus Christ. The final chapter asks, "What would an idol-free life look life?" Here the author makes five points: First that when we repent of idolatry you'll start to really get free. Second, you'll have a revival of gratitude for the Gospel.

It made me want more of the instruction and WORD. When we all struggle with LIFE, I found that this book had answers I could go by and reference. I thought idols were in the old testament, They are in our hearts.....

This book brings you into Brad's world, his early struggles as a young Pastor and how his eyes were opened to idols in his life that were causing some real problems. Read this book with a prayerful spirit and an open mind. Do the challenging "homework" and your eyes will be opened to idols in your life like never before. Follow his Biblical recommendations and your life will be changed. Or read it do nothing and that will be your result. Either way it's a great book, it's your choice as to how much you will get out of it.

If you want to really enhance your reading experience download Brad's messages on Gospel Treason at: bradbigney.com, he is one of the best preachers you will ever hear.

If you are a true follower of Christ and don't have the evidence of growth in your life then the teaching from Pastor Bigney's book will give you the tools to walk in obedience. The wisdom from God's Word in this book has been a turning point in my walk with Christ. I now am able to pinpoint the idols in my life that result in the sin that causes so much turmoil and was keeping me from that "peace which is far beyond human understanding" God talks about in Phil. 4. I have read the Word through many times over the years and understand why God "gave some to be teachers" to instruct us in areas we didn't see on our own.

Brad has taken a library's worth of information concerning the idolatrous heart and concisely and practically organized it for our use! He does not claim exclusivity in his work, but rather takes the vast work done by excellent writers and brings it under one cover for a condensed theological study of "the idols of our heart."

With a prayerful heart, humble mind, and teachable spirit, this book will change your life. A great reminder of what the main thing should be, Jesus Christ. It is an eye opening realization of what usually takes the place of Jesus in Christians hearts and minds.

Absolutely worth reading!
