Book Description

The legend of the Holy Grail has captured the imagination of millions of people for hundreds of years. It has been sought in the most unlikely places. But like all good mysteries, we only solve it when we look in the most obvious hiding place. The only thing we know for sure is that the grail is something to do with Jesus. So why not look for it it the books that tell us about Jesus- in the Gospels?

The Gospels were written by Jews, for Jews, about a Jew. It's easy for modern readers to miss their hidden agenda- they don’t live in 1st Century Judea, they don’t speak their language and they don’t share their culture. The Gospels are radical, political works, containing many coded messages. The code is based on the ancient literary technique of Midrash. When we decode the Gospels we begin to understand Jesus’s true revolutionary agenda. It was the Holy Grail which gives us the key to his aspirations.

This controversial book from British author Harry Freedman challenges both Christians and Jews to take a fresh look at the political message of the Gospels. It does not diminish Christianity in any way, but it brings a fresh perspective to one of the most hotly disputed periods of history. If you want to know what Jesus was really hoping to achieve, and if you would like to discover the true identity of the Holy Grail, read this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Provocative Book October 20, 2013

I love these outside the book looks at what we know about the bible and what it's message tells us. The author explores some very intriguing ideas about the other agenda of the Jesus Movement using biblical statements found throughout the bible to examine his argument. If you enjoy reading compelling and over the top biblical based research then this is for you.

What do we really know about Jesus and his disciples? What was the mission supposed to have been and how did it become the world religion it is today? Why did Jesus say and do some things that seem to be directly at odds to the Jesus most of us know from Sunday school? This book gives scriptural based arguments that make you think about these questions and more.

I recommend it to all readers whether your a graduate of seminary, a pastor, preacher or just a believer who wants to know more. Caveat emptor,.. enjoy the book but don't take is as gospel!

More About the Author

Welcome to my author page and thanks for taking the trouble to find out a little about me.

My most recent book is The Talmud: A Biography, published by Bloomsbury. The Talmud is the religious and legal pillar of Judaism. Containing nearly 2,000,000 words in thirty seven volumes, it covers topics as diverse as law, faith, medicine, magic, ethics, sex, humour and prayer. It is a highly complex, profoundly logical and frequently impenetrable work with a history like no other. In its 1,500 year history the Talmud has been banned, censored and burnt, dissected by scholars and rabbis, probed by philosophers, poets, republicans and kings. Its story is a fascinating insight into the history of Judaism. You can visit the book's website at www.talmudbiography.com.

The Gospels' Veiled Agenda looks at the authorship of the Gospels. The writers were Jews, they were steeped in their native culture and the best way to understand their works is to approach them in context. When we do, we discover all sorts of hidden ideas and motifs in the Gospels. Including the identity of the Holy Grail!

There's the Yavneh Trilogy, of which, the first book, Jerusalem Imperilled, was published in November 2011. The trilogy is set in the middle of the 1st Century in the Roman province of Judea, the homeland of the Jews and birthplace of Jesus. The story is fictional but many of the characters are real.
