Book Description

October 2003 Gossip Girl Novels
Everyone who's anyone in New York City is suffering from post-college-application cabin fever and it's time to run a little wild! Could it be that Serena is smitten with Blair's stepbrother or will the Fashion Week parties pull her away from any attempt at true love? Dan and Vanessa are mad about each other and pursuing their creative dreams -- but be careful of what you wish for. Nate hits an all-time low as Blair's Yale interview with a tall, handsome alum takes an unexpected turn and Jenny makes a new friend who gets a little too close for comfort. And just who is going to get into college early acceptance? Wintertime has never been hotter in NYC as things steam up all over Fifth Avenue.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 9 Up--All the regular cast is present in this fourth installment in the series. Situations and alliances have shifted, but these are still beautiful, rich kids whose lives are the stuff of fantasy, and whose achievements seem effortless. Almost by accident, Dan gets a poem published in the New Yorker. Vanessa's film New York is used as a backdrop for an important fashion show. Serena lands a modeling job just by entering a clothing store. However, there is also a darker side to the characters' lives. Neglected and unloved by their self-centered parents, these teens are dying to be noticed. Nate gets busted for drug use. Within hours of meeting a new girl in group counseling, he ends up saving her life when she overdoses. Things don't go well for Blair, either. She's still trying to get into Yale after botching her interview in a previous book. In this installment, she's about to fall for the older man helping her repair the damage of her first interview--until she discovers that he's not separated from his wife and that his daughter is a freshman at her school. Soap operalike, the trials and joys of these kids continue. Teens interested in reading about the lives of Manhattan prep-schoolers are sure to devour this book.--Catherine Ensley, Latah County Free Library District, Moscow, ID

5.0 out of 5 stars Best one in the series!, October 11, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Gossip Girl: Because I'm Worth It (Paperback)
School's almost over, and all of the characters of this Gossip Girl novel are stressfully awaiting their college acceptions (or rejections). This particular book is very full of suspense, and it really changes tone very quickly. It also confronts real issues with a I'm-a-spoiled-rich-kid flair. I won't give anything away as you may be planning to read it, but it is by far the best in the series. But, if you haven't read the previous three, you would be totally lost, and I recommend reading them before you read this one. It's a really easy read, it only took me a day or so to finish it cover to cover. I can't wait for the next one to come out!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars The fourth installment of guilty pleasure, October 18, 2004
This review is from: Gossip Girl: Because I'm Worth It (Paperback)
In the fourth installment of Gossip Girl things are about to drastically change. These rich, beautiful, wild life Upper EastSide New York kids are still up to their backstabbling, malicious ways but this time life is gonna throw them some curveballs.

Blair is still waiting to see if she'll be accepted by Yale but after the whole interview mess and accidental affair with an older man things don't look so great, but meanwhile her obsession with ex-boyfriend Nate continues, though she is finding new avenues in her life, including letting go of her major Audrey Hepburn obssesion. Yeah, bet we expected that. Nate himself is turning over a new leaf after getting busted for drugs. He is sent to counseling where he saves a girl who overdoses. A drugged Snow White beauty would be a nice way to describe her and it looks like Nate's romantic status is headed in a different direction.

More emphasis is put into Dan and Vannessa's relationship, and less on Serena, though I find her increasingly annoying. Dan, the romantic poet gets his poem published in the New Yorker somewhat by accident and then meets a yellow toothed lady whom he goes off and has an affair with. Call that messed up!

Serena and Aaron are finally an item, but who knows how long that will last knowing Serena...Jen is moving on to a new man since Dan no longer seems to have time for her...Things are changing and the scandals/soap opera is getting weirder by the minute but the biggest question is still: Who is Gossip Girl? Could it be someone we least expect??? A definite must read though not as good as the previous few. Some storylines were a bit dull but still not one to miss:) Probably not your mother's favorite cup of tea but who can resist some guilty pleasure?

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best One Yet, September 25, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Gossip Girl: Because I'm Worth It (Paperback)
I have read the entire Gossip Girl series and I must say that this is the best one yet. While I admit that part of my intial appeal to it was the mention of a certain Orange Pigskin Hermes Birkin Bag, I have now grown to know and love these charcters. This is certainly not your average teen book. In addition to more sex, drugs, and rock-and-roll than ever, we see our favorite characters all trying something new. We witness college acceptances, rejections, and everything else. I would tell you about the surprises we see from Blair, Nate, Serena, Jenny, Chuck, Vanessa, Dan, and the rest of the upper-east side socialites, but I totally don't want to ruin it for you! Just get the book and read it! You'll be addicted, baby!
