A writer who is definitely of the world about which she writes--she attended a fancy Manhattan prep school and lived to tell all about it. She walks the walk and talks the talk, so her characters and their conversations and antics ring completely true.

The Upper East Side used to be overrun with plastic surgery happy society women, and spoiled tots torturing their high-priced nannies. But times have changed. While these people still occupy a small portion of the sidewalks, they have been pushed aside for a new generation of beautiful people. Teenagers brought up in the lap of luxury, who spend their days buying overpriced La Perla undergarments at Barney's, and indulging in frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity. But spending money isn't all that's on their mind. There's always...gossip.

GOSSIP GIRL: Ever since the flawless Serena van der Woodsen departed from New York City to take up residence at a boarding school in Connecticut, sixteen-year-old Blair Waldorf has ruled Constance Billard School for Girls. As the daughter of a prominent lawyer turned gay, Blair has always gotten her way. And, with Serena out of the picture, was able to snag the gorgeous, green-eyed Nate Archibald for herself. Unfortunately, as much as Blair would like to deny it, Nate has always had a thing for Serena. A secret passion for the blonde-haired, blue-eyed beauty. And now with Serena back in the picture, Blair doesn't know where their relationship will stand. So she has to take drastic measures...hand Nate her V card and he'll be hers forever. The only problem is that Nate is a stoner who has a very short attention span, and even sacrificing herself to Nate won't let him forget the passion he feels for Serena.

But he's not the only one. Dan Humphrey isn't your typical rich kid. For one, while he attends school with some of New York City's most privileged, he actually resides in an apartment on the Upper West Side with his chesty younger sister, Jenny, and his eccentric writer father, Rufus.

These books will take you to another world (or perhaps your world if you're extremely lucky!). These books tell a hilarious and fun account of growing up in the wealthiest part of the upper-east side of New York, New York. Blair Woldorf, the main character, is a controling imaginative, and ambitious girl from a family of old money. Watch her deal with her perfect "best friend," boys, the college admitions process, and her complex family life. While she is the main character you also get a glimpse of this lifestyle from other various points of view. You see it from the eyes of Nate (a burned out heart-throb), Serena (a carefree beauty), Dan (a poetic romanitc), Vanessa (a talented, esoteric artist), Jenny (the young inocent one), and Aaron (a stranger tossed into this scene by an odd marrage). You will not be able to put these books down and each one will leave you begging for more! Read these books immidiately, and you won't be sorry!!

I'm da 1st reviewer. This set contains the 1st three books in the series. If you havn't read it yet, what are you waiting for? Go read it. Buy this set, b/c you will end up liking it and then buying the next book, but it saves you more money if you bought the whole set instead of each book seperately.
If your looking for a gulity pleasure to read then here it is.

This is really superficial stuff, but it's no wonder it's such a hit. These rich kids' designer lives are the stuff we've all fantasized about. It's just as easy to relish the high moments (Serena hooks up with a rock star, Dan and Vanessa finally get it on) as it is the disasters (Blair dates her Yale interviewer, only to find out he's the married father of one of her classmates, Nate gets busted trying to buy pot in Central Park).

The [...] interludes are the perfect device, because they remind readers of our place in the whole mess: We are not these characters. We are not their friends. We are simply gawkers.

While none of the characters are particularly noble, it's fun watching them throw fabulous benefits (complete with Kate Spade gift bags!) or jet off to a tropical island for the holidays. The author expertly weaves their various storylines together for maximum energy. But do your kids really have to read the whole series? Probably just one or two will do. They're really fairly similar, except for the fabulous outfits, of course.

I absolutely love the Gossip Girl book series! I read all five of the books in about 8 or 9 days ... they were that good!! Although the characters in the Gossip Girl series are mind-blowingly rich, it seems that they deal with the same problems as average teens, such as drugs, back-stabbing friends, and break-ups. When you think about it, that's really the messege of these books: that we're not all as different as we think we are. Also, Cecily von Ziegesar is such a convincing writer, sometimes I feel like I know Blair, Serena, Nate, and the rest of the gang, instead of them just being fictional characters! I recommend the Gossip Girl series to anyone who enjoys romance, drama, comedy, and rich people making fools of themselves!

My friend gave me the first book. I was reluctant to read it. It didn't look great. The next week i had finished all 5 of them. My new favorite series. I loved them all sooooo much. i instantly felt compassion for blair, hatred toward serena, and attracted to nate, except for the weed. They were characters almost no one can relate to, but we love them anyway. If you haven't read these 5 treasures, do it now or regret it forever.
