Derrick Webb has lived a privileged life. Rich family, good education, great clothes, whatever he wants. So small-town girl Cathy "Jones" Jones is nothing but happy to be friends with the stud, especially since he's letting her live in his fantastic New York apartment free-of-charge. But when the three friends, Jones, Derrick and Travis, decide to start a rumor...

I read this book because the preview for the movie looked good. However, I was extremely disappointed. There was a lot of room for this book to have been good. but it reminded me of made for tv show. The characters were weak and sorry. Don't waste your time.....

Derrick Webb has lived a privileged life. Rich family, good education, great clothes, whatever he wants. So small-town girl Cathy "Jones" Jones is nothing but happy to be friends with the stud, especially since he's letting her live in his fantastic New York apartment free-of-charge. But when the three friends, Jones, Derrick and Travis, decide to start a rumor and follow it, like the game "telephone," they don't even think twice. After all, it's just in good fun. Who's it going to hurt? Obviously, more people than they think. Suddenly someone in in jail, and another person is dead. Now it's time for one of the "gossips" to come forth, before anyone else gets hurt.

I saw the movie GOSSIP a couple of years ago, and was quite mesmerized by the plot, as it was original and exciting (not to mention that Kate Hudson was in it), so when I recently came across the book by Wendy Corsi Staub, I just knew that I had to have it. Wendy is a fantastic writer, who has created an exciting novel, filled with crazy twists and turns on every page. The characters of Jones and Derrick are interesting, as well as peculiar, as is the character of Travis, who seems strange, but is more of a creative genius. Overall this is a fantastic book. Gossip lovers will be intrigued by the plot, while fans of the movie will be dying to get their hands on this book. A must read.

when i picked up this book,i only grabbed it because joshua jackson was on the cover!once i started reading the book i realized how interesting of a story it was.when i first read it i imagined all the charecters in my head,j. jackson as derrick and marisa coughlin as jones.i couldnt wait to see the movie to find out who was who,but the movie was slightly worse than the book.everyone is smoking and drinking all the time!i definatly recomend you see it but dont be suprised if the book is better.

When I got this book, I only got it because Joshua Jackson was on the cover, but once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down! It was such a great book. I would have never suspected what happened in the end! It was definitely a page turner. I can't wait to see the movie when it comes out. I wonder what actors will play which parts? I can tell you one thing about the movie, if it's anything like the book, it's going to be outstanding!

...that this is an EXCELLENT, masterfully crafted book?

Derrick Webb and his two roommates, Jones and Travis have a rather unusual project. The three undergraduate students at a large university in Manhattan decide to create a rumor to see how their story mutates. Their rationale? An adult version of the popular children's game of "Telephone," where one person whispers something into another person's ear and by the time the message reaches the last person, it bears no resemblance to it's original form.

Derrick, an enigmatic, charismatic figure, picks his targets well. He chooses to spread a rumor that has the potential to negatively affect the lives of those it is about. What Derrick DOESN'T count on is the results of the rumor and the people who ultimately become involved. Jones, a seemingly naive girl and Travis, a computer genius are drawn to Derrick's wealth and promise of excitement.

The rumor does indeed mutate. It pulls in some very unexpected punches. The results are -- very surprising indeed.

Wendy Corsi Staub is a gifted story teller and this book, like her adult mysteries is a brilliantly, tautly crafted masterpiece. The conclusion is indeed a wickedly delicious surprise; Staub keeps leaps and bounds ahead of her readers.

Every time I read a mystery by Wendy Corsi Staub, I hope she'll keep writing. This is brilliant!
