Many are called to be read, few are chosen!,
This review is from: Gossip: Ten Pathways to Eliminate It from Your Life and Transform Your Soul (Paperback)
Just as 'many are called, but few are chosen', many books are written, but few have impacted my life as much as Gossip. It will cause you to take a serious look at your speech and how your words can literally destroy not only relationships, but individuals as well. The path to greater happiness, by eliminating harmful discussions from your daily conversations, will literailly jump off the pages for you as it did for me. It is an easy read but powerful in content. I highly recommend it IF you want happier relationships.

Superb Book On A Relevant Topic,

If you have the bad habit of gossiping, or if you're around people who do, this is a must read! Perhaps Charlie "Tremendous" Jones, a noted speaker and author, put this book in its proper perspective with his cover testimonial: "It took only a few pages for me to ask God to forgive me." Using "10 Pathwways Of Positive Speech" as their framework, the authors offer practical ways to overcome gossip, and insightful tips for discouraging others from speaking negatively about others. I loved the chapter on The Reverse Gossip Game. The reader is encouraged to "repeat only the good people say" versus "telling people the gossip said about them or others." But the gem of this book is found in the closing chapter. "The Best Story Ever" is a classic example of why we should guard our mouths wherever we are. Don't let this 146-page book deceive you into thinking it isn't profound enough. Each of the 18 chapters is packed with useable information that can transform your life--and the people around you by the example you set. Put an end to gossip by learning from, and acting on, the wise advice found in this remarkable resource.

I feel the principles of Gossip: Ten Pathways To Eliminate It From Your Life And Transform Your Soul, will impact and mean a great deal to many people; and I can recommend it highly. I know it changed my life in a very profound and positive way as soon as I started to read the book and implemented the principles that are taught so well. Recently, I was able to use the principles I learnt from reading Gossip, at work. It came as a shock that on my first day at a new job, I would be privy to evil speech, i.e., gossip, from my new team mates about people not only in our department but in other departments as well. Thanks to the principles of the book, however, I was able to over come the gossip feast by remembering and practicing what I had learnt. I felt better for it, knowing that I could refrain from joining in or even listening to the gossip around me. Enjoy reading Gossip: Ten Pathways To Elimate It From Your Life And Transform Your Soul. Enjoy not only the difference it will make in your life but also in the lightness of your soul.

Seven years ago, I moved from a large city to a small resort town. Once I got there, I felt like I moved to "Peyton Place." Everyone was related to everybody either presently or in the past. I was an "outsider."
I started my own business, got involved with professional alliances and organizations, together with social clubs i.e. yacht and sailing clubs, and always made time for philanthropic initiatives and church. I was "well-connected." I networked myself into knowing everyone and everyone knowing me. Unfortunately, to my chagrin I was getting to be known as a gossip or the town crier. At first I enjoyed all of the attention of everyone wanting to hear what I knew about someone or something. However, one day it came back and bit me in bum. I didn't learn from that one time and still repeated my behaviors. I finally realized that I wasn't only hurting those who I called "friends," but I was hurting myself. My word meant nothing. At that time, I wanted to make a conscious effort to change my life. Quite frankly, keeping up with the gossip was causing much chaos in my life. It was weighing me down and I wanted to be a better person. I began searching "gossip" on the internet. I found this book on amazon.com and ordered it immediately. When I got it, I read through it at that very moment. It was life altering. It changed my life. It changed my way of thinking. I realized some of the small things that I was doing were even hurtful and damaging. I also realized that I can single handedly stop others from telling me things they have no business telling me or anyone else. I feel like I am a better person for reading this book and people don't think of me as the person that they can get all of the "poop and scoop" from; but a well respected friend and confidant. I also realized that the people that listened and wanted to hear the "gossip" were really not my friends either. If you are looking for a way to stop listening and/or spreading gossip, and consciously want to make a change for the better, I suggest you get the book immediately. It has truly changed my life. I now have a group of friends that are near and dear to me. I would never betray their trust, nor would I say a bad thing about them or anyone anymore!!! Get the book . . . you will not regret it!!!

A Book That Meets A Long-Felt Need,

Have you ever seen a work force sabotaged by gossip, so that morale sagged, along with productivity? Have you seen someone's career torpedoed by the grapevine? Have you been the victim of unkind remarks whispered while your back was turned? Have you watched an otherwise attractive person become gruesome because he talked so viciously about his associates?Yes, of course you have had these experiences. That's why you will welcome this marvelous book. Up until now, you have been aware-even painfully aware-of this pervasive bad habit, but, like me, you didn't know what to do about it. Lori Palatnik and Bob Burg provide a practical ten-step process. Fortunately, there's nothing complicated about their plan. The book is laced with true-to-life illustrations and scriptural references that amplify the authors' points. The instances cited will remind you of uncomfortable situations you have faced, yet didn't know how to handle. Now you will be able to take positive steps to remove yourself from the rumor mill. GOSSIP will meet numerous personal and professional needs. I recommend this book as a study book for an organization's annual planning meeting. The resulting discussion will help create a healthier, happier, and more productive environment. When I direct communication seminars for a variety of organizations, I include guidelines for combating gossip. This book will strengthen my presentations, and will take its place among other carefully selected books that I recommend for purchase and re-reading.

Most of this book is about a simple proposition: gossip is bad. And certainly, the authors do a good job of showing how this is so, and even have some suggestions about how to avoid it (of varying degrees of practicality - some easy, some a bit adventurous; they suggest apologizing to people you gossiped with- which I think works OK if the gossip is recent, but risks repeating the gossip and making the resulting problems worse if not).
I think this book would be a great bar mitzvah present; it seems to be written at a level that a teenager or preteen could understand. But I wonder who its target audience is. I would like to believe that most Orthodox Jews already know the basics discussed in this book, and would like to read something a little more sophisticated- for example, something that focused a bit more on moral close calls, or discussed halacha in more detail. (Rabbi Telushkin's Words That Hurt, Words That Heal, covers some of this ground). On the other hand, the book would be more appealing to the rest of the world if it was less dependent on traditional Jewish sources; when I read this book, I wondered whether non-Jews would be able to fully follow its reasoning. (On the other hand, the positive reader reviews suggest that maybe I have underestimated readers!) Having said all that, this is certainly a good, innocuous book. Reading it will do you no harm, and probably some good.

Gossip ranks among the worst mankind practices,

Ask someone what is the most pervasive harmful habit of mankind and he will probably answer drugs, smoking, alcohol, but he will certainly omit gossip
The Old Testament, (or the Five Books of Moses) expressly forbids gossip and considers it among the worst sins, because gossip leads to evil speech and through it the gossipmonger is harming a third party while he is not there, furthermore the listener is also considered an offender, because through listening he contributes to the spread of gossip, (..this is just one example of the many insights offered in this book..) The authors propose then ten effective pathways to avoid gossip, using Bible wisdom, universal quotes, elements of the Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism) as source and contemporary everyday "The Jonesses" stories as examples of how gossip harmfully interferes and distorts the course of events destroying reputations, lives, old friendships, and partnerships At the end, there is a useful summary of the gists of everyone of the chapters for practical everyday use. When you finish this "Avoid Gossip Handbook" you will conclude that gossip and evil hold hands and will think in advance many times before talking about other people businesses for the sake of speaking.

I believe that very few things in life can keep a person down (personally, professionally or both) as that of gossip. Whether you are the one taking part in the gossip of another person or the one being gossipped about. In either case there's never a winner. I commend Bob Burg and Lori Palatnik for writing "Gossip: Ten Pathways to Eliminate It from Your Life and Transform Your Soul". It is a book that should be required reading across both elementary schools and business schools alike. Do more then simply read it, apply the ideas and make it a part of your life...
