4.0 out of 5 stars Near Perfect, but for one thing...., July 10, 2009

This second release from HJB proves they have what it takes to compete in the world of blues: fantastic, heartfelt singing and songs; excellent, blazing instrumentation (including dad's harp playing). What keeps this from being THE perfect recording is the mix: the drums are way too far to the front and sometimes cover the vocals, guitar and bass playing. This cd is definitely worth the money despite this minor annoyance; probably the second best blues recording I've heard this year.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Momentum Goes On, August 1, 2009
This review is from: I Got Blues for You (Audio CD)
Fans hungry for more from this amazing North Mississippi trio will find a feast in this sensational new album from Northern Blues Music.

The Perry siblings, Ryan, sixteen, lead guitar and vocals; Kyle, fourteen, bass; and Taya, ten, drums, burst upon the blues music scene in 2007, placing second in the band category in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis against a field of a hundred and the rest is legend. Not only were they the youngest blues band to sign with a major recording company, their smash debut album for Northern Blues Music, Pay Me No Mind, rocked Billboard Charts for seven weeks and garnered the band a nomination for the coveted Blues Music Award for Best New Artist Debut, 2008.

Their momentum continues. Homemade Jamz has been featured on the TV programs "Today Show," (NBC), "All Things Considered" (NPR) and "Sunday Morning News" (CBS) and is in demand for festivals and other events everywhere.

And their music keeps getting better. I've Got Blues For You features twelve tracks, eleven of which are original numbers penned by their father Renaud Perry, who not only creates the unique handmade guitars Ryan and Kyle play but joins in with some rich harmonica work on several songs, including the rocking "Hobo Man" and the smoking title track "I Got Blues for You."

Ryan's wailing guitar work and throaty vocals backed by Kyle and Taya's strong percussion keep the beat jumping on the Titus Turner cover "Grits Ain't Groceries," and from the up-tempo "Hard Headed Woman" to the sweet love ballad "Heaven Lost an Angel" to the traditional low down blues grooves of "In the Wind," this album is a winner.

An immediate sensation from day one, Homemade Jamz proves once again they are no flash in the pan. I've Got Blues for You is a powerful follow up to the band's knock out debut album. Their music is only getting better. Two thumbs up for I Got Blues for You!

This album really is on the cutting edge of back to the future. What I mean is that it gives you the deep roots from the pass as well as the blues of today which make this album Extraordinary. This is good for parties, juke joints, home listening, driving around and etc. It just has a good sound and great feel to it...

Well, after looking forward to getting this CD, I was mildly disappointed. Unfortunately I don't think it's as good as their debut CD, although still incredible for their ages.

I saw this group at the "Bull Durham" Blues Festival last year and I'm hooked. It's unbelievable the "old" sounds that these young people create....They are truly "ol souls". This CD is one that you listen to and nearly forget about changing out.Sweet, sweet, sweet music for your ear hole!

You might have a be a true blues fan to really appreciate the Homeade Jamz Blues Band. Nothing on this album will ever make it on your local radio station. Then again the blues does not seem to directly appeal to the masses. Even though almost EVERY form of popular music is based on the blues. But do not discount this recording. Though young both in reality and in the business, this album like their first, shows they REALLY HAVE CHOPS!. This album is worth taking the time to check out for a true blues fan.
