The Bo-Keys featuring Otis Clay "Got to Get Back (To My Baby)" Music Video

The Bo-Keys don't simply replay the Memphis instrumental tradition –they deliver a hard-hitting and authentic take on the city's original soul-stew sound. A devotee of Stax instrumental groups like the Mar-Keys and Booker T. & the MGs, bandleader and bassist Scott Bomar formed the Bo-Keys as an homage to the quintessential Memphis sound –yet he has both feet firmly ... Editorial Reviews

The Bo-Keys are the contemporary evolution of the Memphis funk and soul sounds of Stax/Volt and Hi Records. "Got To Get Back" is a snapshot of the group in the studio, jamming on instrumentals in the tradition of Booker T & the MGs and Willie Mitchell and backing up some of their favorite vocalists such as Otis Clay, William Bell and Charlie Musselwhite who make guest appearances on the album.

5.0 out of 5 stars A modern Memphis soul classic - the REAL DEAL! July 4, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
In a world of ersatzes soul here we have the real deal, a record that literally drips the sweat of deep soul and the righteous grooves of classic Memphis soul. These are not the Dap-Kings, this is a band made up of real Memphis soul giants including Charles "Skip" Pitts, Howard Grimes, Willie Hall and Floyd Newman among others. Led by bassist Scott Bomar, The Bo-Keys are vets from Stax and Hi Records are not pretenders to the throne but the real kings of soul. The disk itself is a wonderful mixture of classic Memphis soul instrumentals ("Hi Roller" and "Just Chillin'"), funk ("Work That Sucker") and blues (I'm Going Home"). It features great vocal guest spots from the Stax master singer William Bell ("Weak Spot") and Hi Records Otis Clay ("Got to get Back to my Baby") and gospel/soul singer Percy Wiggins ("Catch this Teardrop"). The disk even has the Memphis blues tradition covered with a wonderful blues with harp master "Memphis" Charlie Musslewhite. If you have any love for traditional soul grooves do yourself a favor and get this fabulous CD IMMEDIATELY!

Old school r&b w/horns! Doesn't get any better than stuff like this. Found out about it off Music Choice Blues Channel (the ONLY one I listen to!)

5.0 out of 5 stars retro soul/jazz September 18, 2011

BB's band without BB. Plenty of good brass work to give that soul sound with a modern twist. I liked it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Listen up-Bo-Keys July 19, 2011

Stax Music and horn riffs from my past. Some blues lyrics that should have been said
in more vulnerable times; your godfather looking over your shoulder with a simple deep throuty comment, the one you mighta heard. Street corner jive that brings on a smile. these are seasoned musical vibes with blues/horn fusions. Something to make you ponder with.
