5.0 out of 5 stars Honesty is freeing
He is just trying to help other people who may be facing some of the same things as he did. Why do people have to be so negative towards people who are Christian? Who cares about his freaking writing style, he got his point across just fine. I do not think he claims to be a literary genius.Keep it real Fieldy,I am praying for you and Head.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth the read, but not great.
The book was intresting to learn more about Fieldy and Korn, but was not very well written. Poor grammer, punctuation and organization of thoughts. The end of the book is a bit repetative and he seems to think too highly of himself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fieldy Doesn't Hold Back, March 25, 2009
I was fortunate enough to see Korn (with Staind) many years ago, and really enjoyed the concert. This might not seem unusual, except for the fact that I was a parent chaperoning my kids at the time. The "nu Metal" sound of Korn was new, fresh and interesting. Little did I know how much this band was hurting on a personal level.

Fieldy, Korn's bassist, opens up about his own alcoholism, drug abuse, violence, and general immaturity in a way that shows extreme vulnerability. He takes complete responsibilty and shows deep remorse for the hurts of his past, but makes it clear that his heart was always in the music and with the fans. He shows a love for all of the band members, past and present.

The writing style is as coarse as the material. Fieldy doesn't sprinkle the pages with flower petals, and readers shouldn't expect a watered-down version of a picnic with Korn. I loved the edginess, yet compassion, that resides in these pages.

In addition to a great story, the book is crammed full of great photos of Fieldy, his family, band members, and other cebrities and fans.

It's very well done, and very enlightening. This would make a great gift for teens who are starting to move off of the straight and narrow.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very informative for you Korn fans out there., May 7, 2009
I enjoyed Got the Life. It was a quick read, which is good for me, that dives into the life of fieldy: a man who can admit his mistakes and try to make his life better. There are some cool stories about life on the road with Korn. Stories of alcoholism and drug abuse are discussed as well as fieldy's addiction to women and fame. I recommend to any good Korn fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars raw portrait of a drugged out rock star, March 12, 2009
I also read Brian 'Head' Welch's memoir and was equally moved. I'm amazed that neither one of these guys wound up in body bags (although they did for their video for ADIDAS). It shows what amazing force Christ can be in one's life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Honest!, May 6, 2009
This was an awesome chronicle of Fieldy's journey from the emptiness of "having everything he could ever want" to having the ONE who gives everything! It was painfully honest and liberating. I am 37 years old and was a Korn fan from 1995. I woke up to Christ in 1997 and have NEVER been more free. What a gift this man and his story is to the metal world!

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotionally Charged Book, December 8, 2011

This review is from: Got the Life: My Journey of Addiction, Faith, Recovery, and Korn (Hardcover)
Absolutely awesome book. My 15-year old daughter, a musician, asked me to purchase this book for her. She read the entire book in two days, a first for her. My daughter said she had been totally inspired by the book and she felt the book had actually had a big influence on her life. She asked me if I would read the book, which I did, and by the time I reached the last chapter I was sobbing and very emotionally moved by Fieldy's words. We both liked Fieldy's approach to his new commitment to the Lord and how it totally changed every aspect of his life. Neither my daughter nor I would consider ourselves religious, but Fieldy wasn't trying to convert people, he was simply saying, "this is what works for me." His story is uplifting, inspiring, and offers a definition of true commitment. It has a special message for my daughter and gave her more confidence she can achieve her goals in the music industry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Salvation, June 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased this book for my son. He really identified with this man's struggle against the ungodly things of the world and the spiritual ways of God. He struggles himself with addiction and to see this man that was famous and living in his addiction be lifted up by God to His salvation and His Grace is one of God's miracles. My son re-reads this book often.

To put it simply, this book is amazing and I believe anyone would get something out of it; whether you like Korn or not. I love this book and would read it 100 times over if I had the time.
