Provides a great mindset for becoming pregnant,
By carats@earthlink.net (Upland, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Got Pregnant, You Can Too!: Secrets of Healing Infertility (Paperback)
I too, laughed and cried as I read the stumbling blocks that Ms. Boland experienced. Having been told that I should have a hysterectomy and time was not in my favor, I was desperate to become pregnant. I had already experienced two failed invitro-fertilizations and was searching for alternatives. The advice, mindset, and processes Ms. Boland used-suggests are perfect. I think one can glean what works best for them. The upside to this way of thinking is that if the pregnancy does not occur you are in a state of mind that is much healthier and realistic without a feeling of extreme failure and consumption. Also, knowing that there are other women out there who have experienced the 'consuming emotions of infertility' made the overall experience much more manageable. I would recommend this book to anyone who is addressing the potential inabilty of conception and wants to create-maintain a 'positive enviorment' for getting pregnant.

A loving, inspirational, informative message to women,

After reading Lalou Abrams scathing review of this book, I feel compelled to respond. I seem to have read a different book than she. I found Ms. Boland's book to be encouraging, inspirational, humorous, personal and informative. In fact, the theory that a more relaxed attitude and positive mental state does indeed result in greater numbers of women concieving can be supported by the higher than average numbers of pregnancies resulting in couples who attend the infertility seminars being conducted at Harvard by Dr. Alice Domar, whose work is documented in Ms. Boland's book. Additionally, she mentions medical treatments which have been successful and which are not universally practiced by the greater number of infertility doctors. At no point in this book are women blamed for their infertility. Ms. Boland's loving message is to explore the alternative methods which worked for her to produce her miracle child. I highly recommend this book.

A different kind of hope,
By Taina (Michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Got Pregnant, You Can Too!: Secrets of Healing Infertility (Paperback)
After five years on the infertility roller coaster I found this book has been part of helping change my attitude on life. Katie's lessons allowed me to laugh, or at least smile, at some painful situations that I was allowing to ruin my quality of life. She did not offer any one sure fire cure or lead me to believe that her miracle will be mine. The most challenging aspect of infertility is that no one can give any one a sure fire solution-and that is the one thing you want. This book is about researching every option and choosing the approach that best suits your needs. The book does start out negative, which was how I was feeling. But as the story goes on she evolves into a healthier, more optimistic person, one that I felt inspired to be like. She has reminded me that miracles can, and do, happen. I may never conceive a biological child, but I know, as Katie did, that my child will come to me. Katie's story has reminded me of the importance of taking care of my spirit so that my spirit can take care of you. I realize that sounds like an Oprahism, but I've grown tired of being angry. Yes, I was bothered by her failed marriage, but that actually made me more aware of the damage that can occur when the only focus of your marriage is on having something else instead of what you have.

Miracles do happen,
By heather (Falmouth, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Got Pregnant, You Can Too!: Secrets of Healing Infertility (Paperback)
This book gave me hope that miracles do happen and it gave me back my life. I am a thirty-eight year old woman who has been trying for the last 6 years to have a baby. I have gone through 7 IVF attempts all of which have failed. I have a low egg count and my tubes are also blocked. I had two pregnancies (naturally) one ended in miscarriage and the other was an ectopic which caused me to lose my left tube in April of '98. After this very long and difficult struggle my husband and I decided to let go and live our lives. I have left my demanding job in retail and I am pursuing my dream...that of becoming a teacher. I start school in January. Your book gave me hope that miracles can and do happen. Thank you for your inspiration. I would recommend this book highly for anyone experiencing the pain and despair of longing for a child. The book is hopeful, uplifting, and reassuring. Bless you Katie!!!

It is the passing on of stories -- the unique meaning and specialness of our lives -- which is the true legacy to be treasured. In this book, Ms. Boland honors the legacy of storytelling and in doing so passes along to other women tales of an inspiring journey. Infertility is traditionally a private and burdensome affair, and one that has been hidden behind bedroom doors for too long. In an authentic and brave voice, Ms. Boland shares her experience, giving voice to the mind/body process and validating once again that we women are powerful. I read Ms. Boland's book so I could support two girlfriends dealing with infertility. They have each read the book and are now armed to continue their journey towards fertility from a place of inner strength. Thank you Ms. Boland for reminding us that it's what lies within us that really matters.

As both a Marriage and Family Therapist and a person who is struggling with infertility, I found this book to be both thought-provoking and inspiring. Ms. Boland's book helped me have a sense of control in what often feels like such an out of control situation. She says: "It occurred to me that it is neither fair nor wise to entrust a physician with your entire body, mind and hope for the future. I finally learned that I was not powerless, I was not alone, and that I could make a difference. I learned that I did not have to perceive of myself as a vicitm and that I could participate in and promote my own recovery and success." I might add that this book is also very funny, as the author shares her own misadventures with the reader. I highly recommend it.

I would truly recommend Katies book to any woman whom is going thru this roller coaster of infertily. What I liked best about her book is that it made me realize that stress plays a major role in getting pregnant. Reading her story and how she didnt take NO for answer, she had faith. I realize now that positive thinking has to work. I myself have had two miscarriages, my latest was in March. I am taking Katies book to heart, and hoping that my child will come to me too. I realize things happen for a reason/and happen when they are suppose to. I firmly believe my child will come to me when it feels "I AM READY"..This book also inspires you to look and think more about your over all well being and how its important.

I got pregnant...at what price?,

This review is from: I Got Pregnant, You Can Too!: Secrets of Healing Infertility (Paperback)
What a wonderful first page! I appreciate the author's positive attitude, and I and truly thought I'd found a book for me while I, too, struggled with infertility. However, I found it hard to relate to her difficulty in finding a decent gynocologist regardless of reputation ... and why stay with one you nickname Dr. Casanova! Also, I'm not in the same league as she and her friends: over a year of fertility drugs and IVF after IVF are not only totally against many doctors' advice but most people's wallets. But she lost me totally with her contradictory philosophies of communing with God and with crystals. I did like several of her suggestions for relaxing and getting healthy, and I'm glad she got her baby. Nevertheless, it made me really sad that she couldn't dedicate herself to any of her marriages the way she did to her goal of having a baby. Happy ending?
