3.0 out of 5 stars Alright
Nice, solid remixes. Nothing great, nothing bad, like the album this single came from. Here's a breakdown:

1) "Radio Edit" -- 20 seconds shorter than the album version.

2) "Mellow Mix" -- Mellow is a pretty good description. It's rather soft and dreamy sounding, without the harder percussion of the original. I like this version a lot more than...

I agree with the other reviewers..the remixes are good..but, not the best..for me the original is still the best...with the "Mellow Mix" coming in behind it a close second. I would have loved a version with more of the music and less of the lyrics..the groove for the original is fantastic...overall I love the song..I have not stopped playing the CD since I got it yesterday...
I own the import version:
1.Radio Edit-Excellent..shorter than album
2.Mellow Mix-NO Q-Tip rap...laid back..groovy
3.Nellee Hooper Master Mix..My least favorite..(Sorry Nelle)
4.Mellow Mix Edit-The same as no.2, just edited
5.Album Version-True classic
The cover..fantastic..my favorite video from "TVR".. "Got Til It's Gone" viedo is the cover art..clearly one of her best songs!!!! A must have for any Janet fan or someone who loves to collect her singles!!!

2) "Mellow Mix" -- Mellow is a pretty good description. It's rather soft and dreamy sounding, without the harder percussion of the original. I like this version a lot more than the album version. Q-Tip isn't in this mix, by the way.

3) "Nellee Hooper Master Mix" -- A sorta dark, hip hop mix, heavy bass. Q-Tip is present in this version.

4) "Mellow Mix Edit" -- Two minutes shorter than the Mellow Mix.

5) "Album Version" -- Hmmm.

And that's it. Nothing Earth-shattering, but, like I said, I really like the Mellow Mix. It's unfortunate this wasn't release State-side in any case.

5.0 out of 5 stars Be thankful for what you got, September 22, 2010

Got Til It's Gone debuted as the lead single from Janet Jackson's 1997 record The Velvet Rope. The project not only addressed social issues like homophobia, losing loved ones to AIDS, and domestic violence, it also allowed Miss Jackson to confront her lifelong feelings of depression and inadequacy.

The plot line for GTIG isn't as dramatic as the other songs, but there are traces of melancholy and loneliness. Janet's miserable after letting her girlfriends sway her into cutting a good man loose and realizes "that you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone"! Q-Tip (of the legendary A Tribe Called Quest) stars as the formerly dismissed ex. He reminds her that letting him go was a BIG mistake, but not in a mean spirited way. Pitying really. "Now look at you." Everything from the dusky hip-hop production to the cleverly creative sample of Joni Mitchell's Big Yellow Taxi gels splendidly.

Now to the remixes. The bass on the Nellee Hooper Master Mix is a bit too heavy for my taste, but still an impressive take on the original. Now the Mellow Mix I could listen to on a loop forever. Mellow is an understatement. The vibe is a delicious mix of peaceful, chill, ethereal, and then some. The sadness is still there, but more refined. Unfortunately Q-Tip's rhymes are left out, but you'll be so relaxed you won't even notice. "Now why you wanna go and do that, and do that, huh?"

4.0 out of 5 stars Got 'Til It's Gone, August 11, 2006

Tracks:
1. Radio Edit (3:39)
2. Mellow Mix (5:11)
3. Nellee Hooper Master Mix (4:18)
4. Mellow Mix Edit (3:51)
5. Album Version (4:00)

Tracks 1 and 5 are masterpieces, forces to be reckoned with!!! Tracks 2 and 4 are the best of the mixes here, they're slow and very sweet, and Q-Tip is not present in those. Track 3 has major bass damage, and isn't so good...

i like the Production on this song more than anything else.Janet's voice is burried well beneath the Beat&Groove.Q-Tip has a Decent flow through out.Joni Mitchell's Sample is hit&Miss on this cut.this whole Hook Up has Re-Mix written all over it as to lead single or even as a Album Cut.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Single, December 9, 2001

This review is from: Got Til It's Gone (Audio CD)
Janet has always put out a great CD, be it a single or a full length, and this is no exception. Got Til It's Gone is a nice song that is a little detour from the regular music that everyone is used to hearing. The remixes are great, and may become repetitive (very minimal), but some are different enough to make it worth buying.

Janet's first single (internationally) from her multiplatinum 1997 release "The Velvet Rope". It includes a bangin remix of the song and another remix called the Mellow Mix WHICH I LOVE and it's worth the price of admission. You need to buy this CD now JANFANS because you'll love it. Can't wait for ALL FOR YOU!!!! AHHHHH!!! LOL :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Very cool, May 1, 2005
This review is from: Got Til It's Gone (Audio CD)
I love this song!! It's one of the kind you would play at a party. But you can hardly hear Janet Jackson at all, the beat drowns her out.
The song practically only says " Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got til it's gone" and a little rapping from Q-Tip.
