Good reading for anyone in therapy, better for therapists!,

This review is from: I Got Tired of Pretending (Paperback)
I have been around for a while now, seeking out peace and understanding. Through various self help/we help and spiritual practices many make it all too esoteric, complicated, long and drawn out. This is yet another great book that cuts to the chase with Bobs real life story to finally get to the real stuff behind feeling bad. The saying "we are the sum total of our experiences" is true and our childhood is where the foundation was built. There have been a number of issues in my own life that I simply didn't know why they were there. Bobs story tells of his own effort and successes in dealing with his own addiction, comming from a alcoholic/dysfunctional family and getting to know, understand and love himself. This stuff takes years to work through and it is difficult find such wonderful first hand information to help on that journey. Great book. I have a signed copy from Bob Earll but have to return it (sadly), so I am getting a couple of copies but wi! ! ll resist the temptation to give one to my mother.

I've been reading lots of books on ACOA and this is the best so far. The author makes you feel like it's just you and him in private conversation. He understands how you feel and helps you to understand how you feel. I recomend this book to all my ACOA friends.

"Broken, But Healed...",
This review is from: I Got Tired of Pretending (Paperback)
Over the years, I have heard many speeches by Mr. Earll that were recorded in rooms where womyn and men gather to share their experience, strength and hope. I often wondered if he had written a book about his journey from brokenness to wholeness. A few weeks ago, I checked the internet and found two titles. What a blessing to read more about his recovery.
Mr. Earll's message to recovering alcoholics and addicts, to Adult Children of addicted parents, to grown-ups raised in dysfunctional homes is simple: there is a way out of the pain. However, the process of healing the pain requires a willingness to stop pretending that we are not distressed and to accept help as we begin our Inner Child/Family of Origin work. It is simple, but not easy. Yet, we must keep in mind a Truth statement in the Book that has helped to heal countless alcoholics, addicts, and codependents: "rarely have we seen a person fail who has thoroughly followed our path." Yes, we may be broken. Yes, our survival tools from childhood are creating disaster in our adult lives. Yes, it will be painful to dispute all of the irrational beliefs that have impeded our progress...but if we painstaking about this journey to wholeness, we will "suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves".

I read this book when it was first published and it still remains the best CODA/ACA type book I've ever read. Bob's writing is easy to understand and identify with. I've given it away to my friends and am ordering a new copy.

The entire procedure, from my connection to the Amazon web site & the ease of quickly finding the product I was looking for at a price pleasing to my pocket book, & then all the way to the seller with their competence regarding the quality of the merchandise & speedy shipment & arrival of the book in the condition I expected, was what I would consider a "class act" which could have only been performed by considerate folks who care about the buyers satisfaction. Thanks y'all.

Well, I find this book interesting and that is about it. It does not really help me in any way because it does not give any clue as how to do that. It is simply not deep enough and leaves to many unanswered questions. It is a good start for newcomers to recovery though.
