Detroit retro punksters,

In the great tradition of the motor city the sights follow in the footsteps of Iggy and the stooges, MC5 and the white stripes. The superb songwriting skills of Eddie Baranek they embrace scuzzed 60s beat pop on 'don't want you back' and 'be like normal', 'got what i want' Supergrass on 'one and only' and the who on 'Nobody'. The sights sit well outside the current cities fasination with blues inspired riffs and are not part of the 'Jack White' club, for that alone they deserve recognition. Endless hooks and foot tapping tunes make this a hidden gem of the new rock revolution.

The explosive Sights follow their brilliant Who "Sell Out"-style hodge podge debut "Are You Green" by more tightly compacting their influences. More consistently bluesy and (pardon the expression) cock rocky, the group still weaves in Mersey bits, Badfinger, Blue Cheer, Bad Company, and at one point a simple and blazing if shameless Zep riff. Baranek has dead-on, archetypal rock vocals, though subtle variations at times recall Elton John, among others. "Got What I Want" sounds like a cover of the Spinal Tap classic played by early Guns and Roses. Think of great rock bands when they played 200 capacity bars. See them now in such a venue.

Picked up this album @ their Cactus Club show over the weekend. On first listen I liked what I heard, sometimes a little to bubblegummy Red Kross, but I know it will settle in after a few listens. I gotta tell ya the album doesn't compare to these guys live. These guys ROCK!!! Go check em out, that's an order! Support live music!
