4.0 out of 5 stars Detroit retro punksters
In the great tradition of the motor city the sights follow in the footsteps of Iggy and the stooges, MC5 and the white stripes. The superb songwriting skills of Eddie Baranek they embrace scuzzed 60s beat pop on 'don't want you back' and 'be like normal', 'got what i want' Supergrass on 'one and only' and the who on 'Nobody'. The sights sit well outside the current cities...

The sights sit well outside the current cities fasination with blues inspired riffs and are not part of the 'Jack White' club, for that alone they deserve recognition. Endless hooks and foot tapping tunes make this a hidden gem of the new rock revolution.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great followup!, February 1, 2003

The explosive Sights follow their brilliant Who "Sell Out"-style hodge podge debut "Are You Green" by more tightly compacting their influences. More consistently bluesy and (pardon the expression) cock rocky, the group still weaves in Mersey bits, Badfinger, Blue Cheer, Bad Company, and at one point a simple and blazing if shameless Zep riff. Baranek has dead-on, archetypal rock vocals, though subtle variations at times recall Elton John, among others. "Got What I Want" sounds like a cover of the Spinal Tap classic played by early Guns and Roses. Think of great rock bands when they played 200 capacity bars. See them now in such a venue.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great 60's UK throw back Rock&Roll, April 21, 2003

Picked up this album @ their Cactus Club show over the weekend. On first listen I liked what I heard, sometimes a little to bubblegummy Red Kross, but I know it will settle in after a few listens. I gotta tell ya the album doesn't compare to these guys live. These guys ROCK!!! Go check em out, that's an order! Support live music!

Sounds like The Rutles to me. The band name does them no favours as you assume they're another 'The...'-type Detroit rock band. Clever US Pop/Rock pfuzz in the glorious tradition of Red Kross, the 1st Christmas LP or Game Theory (when they weren't being 'experimental').

what an idea-give a talented band the leeway to fully explore their well written songs with vigor and intensity.their from detroit.like jack and his sister/wife,what is up with that, but not the same by any means.maybe a notch down on the intenso meter from the candy cane kids.but its only degeared to make sure the punch is perfected.

Finally, a Motor City band that has more than two members! On this brilliant sophomore effort, The Sights continue the Detroit Rock Revolution started five years ago by Kid Rock and Andrew WK. These guys sound like Clifton Chenier if he got his hands on a mellotron after listening to a steady diet of Big Star and Slayer. However the aspect of this album which truly elevates it to masterpiece status are the lyrics to "Sweet Little Woman" penned by Zachary Curd (check out his bass playing for the fabled, but short-lived Metros and his handclapping work on The Recital's last album). Personally, I just can't get over the line "Sweet little woman won't you be a friend of mine" Pure sexy and guttural genius. Hopefully, the Sights will continue to spread the gospel of rock n' roll and maybe next album they'll enlist Curd to pen all their lyrics.
