On July 5, 1983, "Rest In Peace" were the last words uttered by bass player David J as he left the stage announcing to an unsuspecting audience and crew that BAUHAUS had just played their final concert. Shortly after, a press release followed confirming that BAUHAUS had disbanded.

It is one of the ironies of rock music that a handful of groups, such as The Velvet Underground or ... Read more in Amazon's Bauhaus Store

5.0 out of 5 stars This really took me back to the DC in 1998 November 17, 1999
Format:Audio CD
I had the opportunity to see Bauhaus' Resurrection tour when they stopped in DC. The show was spellbinding, hauntingly beautiful, a real spiritual event. This recording really captures their live essence. Standout points are their cover of Dead Can Dance's 'Severance' (I saw in my mind Peter on a stage riser crooning above with his arm outstretched to the ceiling as he did in DC). 'In Fear of Fear' is blistering and the fuzzed intro to 'Double Dare' on the live recording filled me with the same chill I felt at the beginning of the show I saw. The fact that they included a version of 'Spirit' on this is all the more relishing. I believe they only played that song to the real enthusiastic crowds. It is quite a treat to have it here. Another perk to this release is a studio version of 'Severance', very similar to their live take on the song, but their first studio release of new material since they broke. Need I say that this is a must for any fan of Bauhaus? It is sure to invoke the same feel their live performance induces.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album November 16, 1999
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
A well recorded live album, but I still kinda like the raw, noisy sound of Press the Eject and Give me the Tape. I was at the show, and found the live sound better than reproduced on the discs. Some of their best songs performed well - a must for the Bauhaus fan. Go ahead - it's worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars oh please (in reference to the reviewer from Brazil) January 28, 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Old punks? Bauhaus essentially single-handedly started the whole goth music scene. They are the original, quintessential goth band. I have been listening to them since 1981 or so, and to me they're still the best goth band ever. Most of the newer bands are just trying to emulate their style. Yeah, maybe this recording isn't the best, but it's a LIVE ALBUM! They are always going to sound rougher than the studio albums. The end result: if you LIKE Bauhaus and you LIKE live albums, then get this one.

This serves both as a great "Best of.." Collection and a great Live performance from one of the most influential bands of the days of yore. I wouldn't recommend picking this up as an introduction to Bauhaus, but if you're like me, unfortunately too young to have seen them in their hay-day or most likely ever see them again, then this is a great way for you to get the idea of a live Bauhaus show without being able to be there in person. My only complaint is that this Two Disc set, which cost me the same as a FULL two disc set, only has about 19 tracks all together and is basically just a live version of collection 1 and 2. I was hoping for two discs with 15 songs a piece that would serve as a career spanning live document, featuring four or five select songs from each of their albums (See: Death To The Pixies). All I'm asking for is a live version of "Exquisite Corpse", is that really too much to ask? Oh well, such is life. Anyway, this album is definitely worth checking out if you're interested in hearing Bauhaus live...And you have the 23+ bucks to throw away on 19 songs....God that burns me.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great CD, essential for real goths June 18, 2000
Format:Audio CD
Real Goths, take heed - this is a good album, one of the bestlive recordings I have ever heard. Their best known tracks are here,as well as a cover of the Dead Can Dance song "Severance.". If it wasn't for Bauhaus, none of those bands he listed would probably exist. And if you call yourself a goth and have never even heard of Bauhaus...keep your mouth shut about it and learn before shooting off. END

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice comeback concert June 1, 2003
Format:Audio CD
Goes through all the favourites and gives a few bonuses as well but I have to say that the version of Bela Lugosi Is Dead is not half as good as the one on Press The Eject And Give Me The Tape. That one has a more claustrophobic nature to it. As for the cover version of the Dead Can Dance song - it's good but I would prefer to hear the original

5.0 out of 5 stars You Can Hear the Fog Machine Whir... January 22, 2001
By linv
Format:Audio CD
Not many bands can pull off the solid-black thing without eliciting giggles, but this one does. I thought the Bauhaus were great 10-15 years ago, and was leery of getting this disc for fear it would be one of those sad reunion albums that always seem to come out a decade after the "final" tour. But not so! These guys still wallow in existential angst with the best of 'em. If anything, Peter Murphy's delivery is more substantial after a decade of great albums and vocal growth. And the band proves that they can still play rough, even after the pop and polish of Love and Rockets.

5.0 out of 5 stars The show comes to life November 18, 2004
Format:Audio CD
This album does a great job of capturing the feel of the concert. I was able to attend both shows in San Francisco, once from the floor, and once from the balcony. What a fantastic spectacle! If you have not seen the DVD, you must also get it. Right from the start, everything about this album is stark, gripping, and pure Bauhaus. Time did nothing to damage the power of the greatest goth band to walk the planet - they played brilliantly, and it really comes out in this CD. Sure, there were some minor screw ups, as with all live albums, but all in all it is fantastic. My only comment is that I wish they had included 'Burning From the Inside' on this recording. They played it at one of the SF shows, and I'm not sure if they tried it again after that. It appeared to be a fluke...Daniel started playing it while Peter was over talking to David. At first it sounded as if they were just messing around, not really intending to play it, but then the crowd went wild, and so they played out the entire song. Masterful. Anyway, maybe a bootleg will turn up one of these days...

5.0 out of 5 stars Real Goth returns
I bought Gotham for purely nostalgic reasons and though that, with Peter Murphy's mellowed post Bauhaus ventures, the music would be a watered down Bauhaus imitation. Read more
