Book Description

October 21, 2008

Having spent so long on the periphery of the art world, gothic art is taking its place as a bonafide art form influencing fashion, literature, film, media, music, and design. Gothic Art Now brings together for the first time the finest, the freshest, the darkest and the most exciting talents from around the world. The work covers the most compelling gothic art across various media, from paintings and illustrations to photography, sculpture, and digital art.

Featured gothic art includes the breathtaking sculptures of H.R. Giger, the ethereal watercolors of Natalia Pierandrei, the grim fairytale paintings of David Stoupakis, the hypnotic oil paintings of David Bowers, the haunting photography of Shannon Hourigan, the sinister dolls of Scott Radke, the delicately dismal portraits of Dorian Cleavanger, and numerous other terrifying and thought-provoking artistic creations in literature, digital media, film, and advertising. Inside information from the artists on how they created their work along with a full artist directory are also featured.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very nice compilation, February 13, 2010
This review is from: Gothic Art Now (Hardcover)
This book leans more toward digital art than I would prefer, but that's probably my bias as a painter creeping in. The work in this book is beautiful and engaging, and the book itself is of good quality. If you are into gothic/dark fantasy illustration, this book is a good investment.

GOTHIC ART NOW offers a fine collection of the latest cutting-edge Gothic art from around the world, and comes packed with rare, previously unpublished art from both new talents and legendary artists alike. This art work is paired with details from its creators on how they produced their masterpieces, and also holds website details for further follow-up. An outstanding recommendation not just for art libraries, but for general-interest lending collections.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful collection of some of today's best artists!, February 3, 2009
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Gothic Art Now (Hardcover)
Gothic Art Now is a beautiful collection of some of today's best artists. Very high quality printing, it features full colour reproductions of hundreds of pieces covering a wide spectrum of the Gothic genre. A very wide variety of media are represented: traditional oil and acrylic paintings, stained glass, digital creations, scratchboard, sculpture, pencil, photography and more. There are contributions from well established artists such as H.R. Giger and Brom alongside amazing emerging artists such as Tina Imel and David Gough. There are some mature subjects (partial nudity, some violent or disturbing images) but it is overall a very approachable book - perfect for anybody interested in the gothic art scene or for for art lovers in general.
