Gothic Rock at it's best.,
By Matt "Cannibal King" (Beyond the Tanarian Hills... Pennsylvania.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gothic Years & After (Audio CD)
It's very strange that this East Coast goth rock band did not last very long. The beautifuly haunting vocals of Athan Maroulis were at there best when working for this group (he went on to work with other bands and delved into the world of industrial and EBM). Fahrenheit 451 took influences from older bands such as The Doors and also goth bands like Bauhaus. Calling the bands instrument work 'absolutly amazing' would barely be scratching the surface. If you've heard any of their songs on some of the various gothic compilations floating around and liked them, then do not hesitate to buy this album. Tracks 1-10 are original Fahrenheit tracks and 11 and 12 are cover songs from Bauhaus and The Mission UK. 13-16 are songs from slightly more electronic groups that the members joined after Fahrenheit broke up. I, myself, never exactly trek past track 12. Electronic goth is not my cup of tea. Though the last few tracks are a little different, this album hardly strays from my CD player for long.Favorite Tracks: Flowers Melt Away - This bouncy yet still slightly dark little number always has me singing along. It's lovable chorus and wonderful ending bridge can't be beat. Zombies - Swirling, whiney guitar and tribal skin drumming wrap this track in an intence apocaliptic feel while the lyrics just drip with dark imagery. It's hard to find songs that are actualy about the walking dead instead of using the word 'zombie' as some lame double meaning, but here you have it. A song that is actualy about zombies. Listening to this will have you looking over your shoulder at night. Black Dahlia - This is quite a stand-out track for me. Athan's ghostlike 'woah's and Pete Lisa's climbing and falling bass lines give this track a spooky feel. Ontop of this, the gloomy Voodoo Island sounding keys and mournful sounding guitar lines make this track a dark masterpiece. I highly recomend this album for any fan of Bauhaus or The Mission UK or any fan of pure, unrestrained gothic rock.

Fahrenheit 451 is in my opinion one of the absolute BEST bands in the "goth" catagory, yet few have really heard of them. If you've heard Flowers Melt Away or Cathedral in Ice from the compilation discs out there and remotely liked them I recommend this CD whole heartedly.I can't even give an honest recommendation on which songs I favor by them because this whole CD is fantastic from start to finish. Their cover of Wasteland by The Mission UK is great too (for all you Mission fans out there). In short, if your into goth music - don't hesitate, buy this CD.
