5.0 out of 5 stars We Love It!
My 3 1/2 year old daughter and I simply love this book! She asks me to read it to her almost every day, which pleases me immensely (especially since the previous favorite was Snow White!). She is fascinated by the transformation of a bug/caterpillar into a butterfly, and by the cyclical nature of the book. She likes to flip from the last page to the first to point out...

1.0 out of 5 stars This book is awful~!
If this is not the worst book i have ever read i dont know what could be. It seems that this book is an awful imitation of the book "the hungry caterpillar"~! I enjoyed "the hungry catterpilar" but this book is so horrable it ruins "The hungry catterpilar for me forever! This author is a horrible imitator of classic childrens illustration.

This review is from: Gotta Go! Gotta Go! (Hardcover)
She likes to flip from the last page to the first to point out that they are the same. "It's starting all over again!" she says. I actually got choked up when I first read the line which appears immediately after the butterfly has laid her first eggs: "It was the reason for everything." This is for me the central message of the book and what really speaks to me-- that despite everything and against all odds, life does go inexplicably on. It is such a positive message. I hope that many readers will get to expereince the wonder and power of this seemingly simple, beautiful little book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Factual, entertaining... what more could you want?, July 8, 2001

This review is from: Gotta Go! Gotta Go! (Hardcover)
Gotta' Go, Gotta' Go is a wonderful book about a monarch caterpillar and his lifelong "journey." I am a nature center director and we use this book to teach about the magnificent monarch migration. The book is entertaining, fun to read out loud, and best of all, factual.

Eric Carle's book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, is a cute book, but he did us all a disservice when he wrote that butterflies come out of cocoons. Butterflies hatch out of chrysalis, moths hatch out of cocoons. This book by Sam Swope has the correct information.

You'll love it, your kids will love it, and your kid's science teachers will love it when your child already knows one of the major differences between butterflies and moths.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gotta Get! Gotta Get!, April 12, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Gotta Go! Gotta Go! (Hardcover)
This book is wonderful! The illustrations are superb and the book simply draws in the young listener. The book is suitable for ages 4 and up, and is the best book for young nature lovers that explains simply the lifecycle of the caterpillar. This book easily compares to the Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, but is much more suitable for the pre-school and early elementary age child. It is better than books describing the Monarch butterfly, as the illustrations are just incredible. A must buy for the nature lover in all kids! Gotta Get! Gotta Get!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gotta Go has young kids comming back for more., May 20, 2000

This review is from: Gotta Go! Gotta Go! (Hardcover)
When I got this book for my children, they were very excited. I have 2 children and the youngest is only 3. I had to read it to them 3 times in a row before they would let me put it down. My youngest would go around the house saying Gotta Go! Gotta Go to Mexico. This has lasted for weeks now and has him very interested in reading. This in itself makes this a 5 star book for me. But it was so simple that both of my children understood and love it. I hope to find more books like this in the future. Thanks for helping my son get a jumpstart in enjoyable reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Class Loves Gotta Go!, May 17, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Gotta Go! Gotta Go! (Hardcover)
I am a kindergartener from Morgan Hill, CA. My uncle, who lives in New York City, gave me the book and I loved it so much I brought it to school for Reading Day. He's helping (making) me write this. So far it has been our all-time favorite book of the year, all the kids in my class can't wait to take it home to read it to their brothers and sisters and their parents and grandparents. My teacher loved it so much that she has ordered several copies for our school library. I'd like to give Gotta Go! Gotta Go! 100 stars but for some reason that wasn't a choice. My parents took me to see the Monarch butterflies near the beach and they were dancing in the sky just like in the book. It was very exciting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute as a bug, January 26, 2004

This review is from: Gotta Go! Gotta Go! (Hardcover)
This is a simple and charming story of a caterpiller with an urge to travel to Mexico. Her neighboring animals tease her (it's too far), but she recedes into her cocoon, emerging as a beautiful monarch butterfly, and proves them all wrong by flying south.

The story has a winsome sing-song refrain ("I gotta go, I gotta go, I gotta go to Mexico!") that children will love, and simple engaging line drawings. I'm impressed that the basic science in the story is accurately presented - the stages of the butterfly's life, its migration, its mating (gingerly and sweetly handled as a "dance" between butterflies) and its eventual return home.

My daughter loved this so much we donated a copy to her pre-school, where they watch monarch butterflies hatch in a terrarium every year. A big hit with the 3-to-5-crowd!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gotta Get!, November 8, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Gotta Go! Gotta Go! (Hardcover)
Gotta Go! Gotta Go! is both entirely delightful and wholesomely informative. Not only does it tell of wonderful, mysterious destiny and miraculous transformation, it also introduces the young reader to the idea of a larger world full of excitement and challenge. Adults may be aware of the gentle, ecologically aware voice in the work through introduction of the main charactar and her pursuit while younger readers will repeat Gotta Go! Gotta Go! when asked "What book?". The illustrations are colorful and deft, the prose elegant and simple. Gotta Go! Gotta Go! is another coupe, and like his book the Araboolies of Liberty Street, gives lesson while it delights. Buy this one, it's a winner!

I bought this book for my niece and she loves it. I've since bought it and Mr. Swope's other books, The Crazees and The Araboolies of Liberty Street, as gifts for all the young people in my life. Mr. Swope's books educate in a wonderfully playful way and the illustrations really help bring his words to life. My niece and I can't wait for the next one!

This review is from: Gotta Go! Gotta Go! (Hardcover)
This is one of the best children's books I have read in a long time...my kid's love hearing it and I don't tire of reading it again and again....

Wonderful because it tells a true 'nature story' in such a whimsical way.
