Rachel Kramer Bussel gives us what we want in her new collection of quickies, Gotta Have It. When there isn't much time, you've got to be a real master--of seduction, of knowing how to give it and get it without the luxury of lavish foreplay. These masterful stories show that getting what you want isn't boring: go ahead, let the stranger in the library bend you over the desk and grope you under your skirt ("Special Collections" by Fiona Curtis); tie your straight office mate up with the phone cord and suck him off while making him watch you get hard ("Jarret" by Shane Allison). But it's not all getting and having--there is artful delay here as well, abundance tempered by longing. In "Genesis" by Shanna Germain - the erotic is in the waiting, as student must wait for teacher to say when. This doesn't mean he doesn't get what he wants, however--or that we don't--as Germain shows us the erotic in the waiting, the power of seduction. And in "Don't Struggle" by Valerie Alexander, we get the hot sex, the delivery, but the erotic is as much in what hasn't happened yet, the "little dependencies" that will begin off the page. The psychological dimension of binding another to you, or of being bound, is as much a turn on as a feverish kiss.

This book is hot. My only complaint is that getting what I want made me so greedy that I didn't want the book to end.

Erotica editor Rachel Kramer Bussel manages with each collection to come up with yet another fresh challenge to erotica writers - and readers. This time she has limited contributions to 1,200 words. "gotta have it" gives us the best 69 of what she calls "sudden sex." But sudden doesn't mean partial or limited - it means fast and furious and hot.

From an innocent junior librarian's introduction to bondage literature (Special Collection by Fiona Curtis) to a phone sex message that messes with a man's mind (Red Light by Angela Caperton), we get fully realized stories that excite the imagination and other organs. Perhaps my favorite is My Femme by Evan Mora about the narrator's boifriend whose vintage teal-blue Corvette, known as The Femme, becomes the setting for a wild session. One of the best written stories (Need-Leash by Mike Kimera) has a married woman catapulted into an affair with a cruel lover saying, "It is not the betrayal or humiliation or the crippling tug of my need-leash that brings the tears," but rather her fear that "one day you will let go of my leash."

This collection is different from many of the other dozens that Bussel has done for it is not aimed at one sexuality, one fetish or one sexual specialty. It is inclusive of the full menu of erotic surprises. It's a great volume to dip into for that quickie - either private or not. Best of all, Bussel has created an encyclopedic volume of these sizzling shorties that still fits conveniently in one hand.
