I'm a gospel music store owner and I couldn't get this CD fast enough myself. I had read the reviews of Ms. Jones' music so anticipation was high. I could say soooo much but I'll try to be concise. I absolutely love the mellow neo-soul sound of her music. The lyrics are what everyone is saying they are: uncompromising,unapologetic,bold and thought provoking. I longed for this style of music without it having a sensual or provocative sound. What's amazing is that she accomplishes this while compelling you to have a deeper love for Jesus Christ.
Definitely buy this cd!!! There's nothing misleading about the cover-art of this project, it IS as soulful as it looks. Her musical influences are evident....Erykah Badu,Jill Scott,Lisa McClendon,Debra Killings, yet her own creativity still flows.
More specifically about "Gotta Soul", track #10 shares her personal struggle with depression; #12 could be an anthem to refute those who say
all roads lead to heaven. Track #14 is just smooth (like ice cream :) You will love the jazzy scatting on #2 and the overall theme of the song.
The title track #9 has a definite purpose and will hit its mark on your heart. #6 "Love Jones" will make you want one if you don't have one.
Just check out the cd yourself....it won't disappoint.

I heard the song Gotta Soul on the radio one day while driving from work and really enjoyed the music and the vocals. Once I made it home I searched for the artist and album. This album has a pleasing soulful sound. The music is soothing. The song selections have a strong salvation message as well as a message about the importance of living your life right. The song "Love Jones" made me think. I had heard about "love jones" but not in relation to Jesus. Honestly, I enjoyed the whole album.

Great CD! Cynthia Jones sounds a lot like Ericka Badu singing Gospel.
Very R & B sounding with a great message from God.

I like her neo-gospel style and appreciate the fact that the message in the music is a gospel one. She is not a "pronoun" singer, she clearly states the name of the one she is singing about and that is Jesus. I also respect that she is herself and not trying to mimic other neo-gospel/neo-soul singers.

I never heard of Cynthia Jones, but I'm glad, through Amazon reccomendations, I found her CD.

This is what gospel music needs!!! Her jazzy and neosoul flavors resonate throughout this album, yet the message of salvation and living right rings loud and clear. No compromise on this album. I have to admit that some of the songs sound much like Erykah Badu's first album, but Ms. Jones did make them her own. Her spirit just seems very godly and pleasant through her music. My personal favorites are Love Jones, Gotta Soul, No Apology and Something About that Name. But the others are all smooth as well. I have such a deep appreciation for this album because there is a sector of us who enjoy this type of music who often get left out of Gospel, that is creatively... I hope this type of music continues to infiltrate the gospel arena so that more people in the "Neo-Soul-Poetry-Love Jones" crowd will be reached because many of them are NOT saved. Thank you Ms. Jones and I hope to hear you live someday.

I love her style since it is more like gospel-jazz and yet REAL! Very up-to-date and smoothe.

Ok, just as described. Was a little disappointed at first when I saw the crack on the CD case, & thought it was a used CD. I got over it, when I saw that it was still sealed.

I like the sound of this CD. Cynthia Jones has a smooth sound. I like the Neo Soul feel to it. Also, listen to the words that she speaks not just the groove of the music. The message is all about God.

This CD is Awesome. Everyone I have referred it to has loved it. It is a must.

LOVE the entire CD, you won't be disappointed with this purchase. If you're anything like me, someone who appreciates the neo-soul sound incorporated in the gospel genre, this is the one! I'm a huge fan of Lisa McClendon, she and Cynthia are on the same page ( so to speak) I'm looking forward to more gospel in this style....please! I'd also like to give Amazon.com kudos for their amazing selection in books as well as music, two of the things that help make life complete!
