I'll be honest. I didn't wanna buy this CD at first. I was afraid that everything would sound like Gotta Get Thru This. Don't get me wrong it's a great song, but I didn't want to spend [the money] to hear the same sound over again. If that's your fear, cast it aside and buy this CD. 3.0 out of 5 stars Good to Some Degree
When I first heard "Gotta Get Thru This" on the radio, I was hooked immediately. After some extensive research, I finally found out that Daniel Bedingfield sang it. I bought this Cd yesterday. The acoustic version of "Gotta Get Thru This" is excellent as well as "Inflate My Ego." The rest of the songs remind me a little too much of...

It's great and you'll be missing out on some great music if you pass this CD buy rather than picking it up. It's fresh & innovative and will have you dancing and feeling the pains of life as each track passes. This is what I call a good "life CD". It's filled with all kinds of emotions, so whatever kind of day you're having, there's a song for it on this disk. Your CD player will love this. Let me tell you of each track.

1)Blown It Again - This could be considered filler, but it's pretty good filler. It's a track I don't mind listening to and bobbing my head with... if only the rap wasn't in here. (3.5/5)

2)James Dean (I Wanna Know) - Hot song. Kinda hip-hop and kinda pop mixed together. Great dancing song. This is definately one to play at parties and clubs. Great beat and nifty lyrics help make this song a standout on this CD. (4.5/5)

3)Gotta Get Thru This (D 'n' D Radio Mix) - Wow... what can I say. We've all heard this song and if you haven't, you must be living under a rock. This song never gets old and is an ultimate dance your [rear] off song. It's great, simple, and pure perfection. (5/5)

4)If You're Not The One - This one of the best ballads I have ever heard in my life. It is truly amazing and full of raw emotions and feelings. This song proves Daniel Bedingfield has real talent... more than most male artists out there now. His voice in this song is perfect and he hits every note with outstanding grace. This will have you crying... seriously. (5/5)

5)He Don't Love You Like I Love You - Nice, soft-upbeat song riding on the sounds of the acoustic guitar. Another great song that you will find yourself singing along to. (4/5)

6)I Can't Read You - Nice song. His voice sings nicely on this track. This has an adult 40/VH-1 feel to it. It's pretty good. Reminds me of John Mayer for some reason. I could see him singing this. (4/5)

7)Friday - The ULTIMATE dance song on the CD. You can't beat this. This is the "it" song... the best song on the disc. The lyrics make no sense, but that doesn't matter becuz it's obvious that they aren't meant to be the focus. The focus is the hypnotizing beat and sounds and just the sound of his voice. This song will have you dancing and bouncing before you even know you are. This is how to get the party started... by playing this song. (5/5)

8)Honest Questions - A very beautiful ballad. Nice, soft, and extremely melodic. This is a very relaxing song and the instruments and overall feel of this song is simply beautiful. His voice is truly amazing... this song is worth the CD itself. Just absolutely astounding. (5/5)

9)Girlfriend - It's an okay track. Kinda sounds like track 6. This isn't the best part of the CD, but it's still a nice song and nice to listen to. It's not quite filler, but it's almost there. Still... it's a pretty good song. (3.5/5)

10)Without The Girl - This is a great song. It has that old-school R&B sound... that classic sound. It's a nice mid-tempo slow dance song. One of those slow-grooving songs. It reminds me of a song Babyface would sing... back when he was actually the stuff. Great song... worth every second. Great vocals. (4/5)

11)Inflate My Ego - The first time I heard this song, it kinda freaked me out. I remember asking myself "What the heck is this?". It sounds like a really up-beat, spunky, fun show tune. But by the end of the song, I was in love with this song and you will be too. It's sooo different and that makes it great. One of the best songs on the CD. Extremely spunk-driven and funky. Great sound and you will be moving with it. I guarantee it. (4.5/5)

12)Gotta Get Thru This (Acoustic) - Even better than the dance edit. WOW... one of the best if not the best. Songs great. This proves that Daniel Bedingfield has what it takes. This version gives the track more life and his great vocals make the meaning and feeling of the simple lyrics real. Nicely done (5/5)

I won't go on anymore about how nice this CD is. You should know that by now. Buy it... you WILL NOT be let down. I promise. One of the great albums of 2002... but sadly it's overlooked. Don't make that mistake and overlook it, you'll be missing out on some good music.

Final Score: 4.4

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite CD of 2003, October 6, 2003
This review is from: Gotta Get Thru This (Audio CD)
Daniel Bedingfield got a bad introduction to the US market. While "Gotta Get Through This" was a huge radio and club hit, it is absolutely not representative of DB's talents or abilities.

Where he really shines the most is on the rest of the album. "If You're Not the One" was also a big hit in the US, and rightfully so - the lyrics and arrangement on this song are incredible. "James Dean" shows his funky side, while "Girlfriend" is a pop confection. "Honest Questions" has stunning lyrics and is beautifully sung.

The acoustic version of "Gotta Get Through This" wraps up the American version of this album, and is an entirely different (and extremely enjoyable) presentation of the dance hit. For those of you who are still wanting more, check out the British version of this CD - it features three more acoustic versions of DB songs as well as another beautiful ballad, "Never Gonna Leave Your Side."

It's rare these days to find an artist who isn't buried in millions of dollars in advertising and hype, let alone one who produces a CD containing songs you can like and listen to repeatedly. I am so glad I took a chance and bought this CD - it's become one of my favorite and I listen to it all the time. Can't recommend this one enough.

4.0 out of 5 stars Left expecting a little more, September 4, 2002

This review is from: Gotta Get Thru This (Audio CD)
Overall this is a good album. From the two singles he's released in the UK gotta get thru this and james dean I expected a much more upbeat album throughtout but overall daniel gives the listner more slow than fast. All the songs basically deal with the girl that's the one or the one he let slip away or the one he wants and can't have. So let's go track by track.

1. I've Blown It Again - Upbeat song with a cute little rap at the end. Very catchy.

2. James Dean - One of my fav songs by Daniel. Cool sound effects and great chorus. Bound to make you happy.

3. Gotta Get Thru This - This is the radio edit. If you haven't heard this song, you're living under a rock. Undeniably very catchy you always want to hear the song again, maybe casue its not quite 3 minutes long you always seem to want a little more.

4. If your not the one - Here the album goes slow. A great song has potential for a great ballad the chorus is great.

5. He Don't Love You Like I Love You - Very cute acoustic guitar driven song that daniel very well could have wrote for the backstreet boys.

6. I Can't Read You - Midtempo song, chessy lyrics but he sings them quite well love the drum empahsis, also very guitar driven.

7. Friday - At first listen this song sounds like it's on speed the beat is so fast, but its a good song makes you want to dance but you can't quite figure out how to do it with the beat.

8. Honest Questions - I love this song, great lyrics, great singing probably one of the best songs on the album starts off kinda slow but gets progressively better

9. Girlfriend - Reminds of this rock song, but I can't place it. I like the song though similar to I can't Read you.

10. Without the Girl - slow almost RnB song almost very similar to a song that I can't place, but its very good.

11. Inflate My Ego - I hate this song, album would have gotten a five if this wasn't here. The sample it uses stinks the lyrics stink, just an overall bad song in my opinion.

12. Gotta Get Thru This - The acoustic version is great, you can tell her he was influenced by michael jackson especially towards the end. Same addictive qualities as the dance version.

5.0 out of 5 stars For the people!, January 28, 2003
This review is from: Gotta Get Thru This (Audio CD)
You just gotta love the success of Mr. Bedingfield! 'Gotta get thru this' - the song - was a lil' ditty that was placed on a dance compilation and it grew from people's requests. He is not the result of some corporation or concept. He is simply himself, the UK's people saw this and THEY made this song and artist huge!!! Sure, the amazon.com review that describes Daniel's music as "one part Prince, one part Michael Jackson, and one part UK Garage" is dead on. A lot of people are "wowed" by the ballads, his depth, etc. I see it: but I almost never buy an album based on that alone. Personally, I need a groove to, well, groove to! It's the faster songs that do it for me:

1. Blown It Again
2. James Dean (I Wanna Know)
3. Gotta Get Thru This (D 'n' D Radio Mix)
6. I Can't Read You
7. Friday

The power and confidence in the guy's voice blow me away. He is young and figuring life out and no matter your age, you can always relate. There is not a lot of innovation here. No new frontiers to discover. Nope, all you have is a collection of well-written, expertly executed songs. You would never have guessed that most of this was done whilst sitting around in underwear. Hey, maybe it would put a smile on you face to imagine it....

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!, August 28, 2002

Rob (NEW YORK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gotta Get Thru This (Audio CD)
Daniel Bedingfield's debut album is just the begining of what looks to be a very succesful career... Including the infectuous single "gotta get thru this" and a handful of other pop gems. He explores many different styles on the album, some songs sound like the uptempo title track, while others have a more acoustic guitar sound that are similar to John Mayer... either way, he pulls off all styles briliantly. In addition, he wrote and produced just about every track on the album... now thats talent. Take a try on something new... you will not be disapointed. Daniel has a strong voice and the ability to write great lyrics... how can you go wrong?

5.0 out of 5 stars Heir To The Throne of Pop, June 20, 2003
By
DJ Dip (JHB, South Africa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gotta Get Thru This (Audio CD)
Daniel Bedingfield is one of many young coming through the ranks aiming to topple Michael Jackson off of his throne. The difference is this young is one in a million and has talent that surpasses all others. Not only is he 20 but he also writes and produces all of his songs. You don't see that much in the modern pop era. Here are how I see the songs:

Blown It Again - Starting with a headphone type sound which is to show us where the album started on his computer in his bedroom. A good song with an extremely catchy chorus. A very slick song that has coolness written all over it. It displays that Bedingfield has a unique vocal ability which is very obvious a talent that Michael Jackson has. About him messing up with a girl. (3.5/5)

James Dean - A funk type dance song intertwined with scatches. Again a catchy chorus. I thought that this song deserved more credit and has lyrics that roll well off of his tongue and easy to pick up on and you end up singing along with them. Lusting after some girl is the basis of the song. (4.5/5)

Gotta Get Thru This - Everyone knows this by now. The song that made him a huge hit everywhere. The garage song that made it in the USA. A synthesizer is used on his voice and it is sped up and one of the great dance tracks of the new millenium. (5/5)

If You're Not The One - A slow ballad about his love for a girl. Very well made with slow vocals, with some very high notes. Hit no. 1 in the UK and South Africa. The ladies will love this one. Guys may see it as a bit soppy. (4/5)

He Don't Love You Like I Love You - One of the best on the album. Name says it all. Good use of guitars and drums here. This is where the talent of the man is most noticeble. At 20 the lyrics are well polished and the beat sticks with you. A classic. (5/5)

I Can't Read You - A rock song with another very chatchy chorus. His voice suites this genre well. Still will not believe that the lyrics are written by such a youngster. (4/5)

Friday - Very different dance song. Saying that his girl is coming back on Friday. Interesting lyrics that work so well with the fast paced nature of the songs. (4.5/5)

Honest Questions - A soft ballad that has a Michael Jackson feel about the production. Lyrics are very mature and his voice is the main focus of the song and all credit is due to the man but it is one of the songs that don't really don't stand out. (3/5)

Girlfriend - Another rock song similar to "I Can't Read You." Not really that catchy but still good beat and the guitars are once again used extremely well. (4/5)

Without The Girl - A funky ballad. Best ballad on album. Has an R&B feel to it. Has a sort of African texture to it. His voice is once again in top form for this song and he makes good use of some well placed high pitched notes. (5/5)

Inflate The Ego - A type of stage performance song that seems like it would fit well in the film Moulin Rouge in one of the many dance acts. I still am amazed at what he can do with this song. It has so many levels. It has dance, rock and then some. The vocals in this song are fantastic and one of a kind. The song is so vibrant and I have hardly heard such an enerergetic song. Very unique. (5/5)

Gotta Get Thru This This (Acoustic) - Just a guitar and his voice. I never thought an acoustic could be this good. Everytime I listen to this I am blown away by his voice and how funky the song is. The song slowly builds up and just keeps getting better and better. Then it ends and leaves you wanting more. The best song on the album. (5/5)

This man is just filled with so much talent that he could tear through all musical genres if he is guided in the right path and used correctly. A mixed bag of songs for everyone. One of the best albums in recent years. I am eagerly anticipating his next work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome debut for Daniel Bedingfield, December 19, 2002

This review is from: Gotta Get Thru This (Audio CD)
I first heard Daniel's song 'Gotta get thru this' on the radio a few months ago. I fell in love with the song, and after listening to clips of the other tracks on his album on his website, I immediately went and bought the cd. He has awesome writing capabilities, as it is blatantly obvious in his songs. He has great beats and rhythms and seems to get just the right music with his lyrics. I also love the fact that he does not swear on this record at all. It just goes to show that you can be a success without having to have every other word bleeped out on your record.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gotta Get Thru This - An album that grows on you., November 9, 2002
This review is from: Gotta Get Thru This (Audio CD)
Daniel Bedingfield's first album is stunning. The diversity and quality of his music as well as the depth of the lyrics on some of the titles are unique and refreshing. His voice and energy reach into your soul like little else can and, without a doubt, track 9 "honest questions" is devastatingly moving: it leaves you standing; you stop everything you're doing and listen to it over and over again. His voice is simply incredible. What Daniel Bedingfield has successfully accomplished are very different songs for different moods and this album is therefore likely to reach music lovers from different strands. Superb arrangements crown it all. A must on your CD rack.

5.0 out of 5 stars Devastatingly awesome, September 10, 2002
By
This review is from: Gotta Get Thru This (Audio CD)
Daniel Bedingfield's new CD, following from his pulverising single chart song "Gotta get thru this ", is another amazing feat for someone who does music "in his bedroom". This talented guy sings like no one else can at the moment; the lyrics are original and have depth for a change. This is new talent on the scene. This CD is somewhat complex because each song is so different than any other, and what comes on the next track is kind of unexpected. But it's really nice, and a change from the boring predictability of so many albums produced for artists who often can't sing or play an instrument as electronics do it all for them. Daniel Bedingfield's blend of styles is testimony to his creativity -and his voice sounds almost ...angelic at times, in complete contrast to the other louder raunchy tracks on the CD.So versatile.

Has Daniel Bedingfield been sent to pick up the idle mantle left by the likes of Michael Jackson, George Michael and Prince? Good news, he probably has. Get this CD, listen to it several times, and you'll likely be convinced.

This review is from: Gotta Get Thru This (Audio CD)
Listening to "Gotta Get Thru This" is a spiritual, romantic, passionate, and completely enjoyable experience.
This is my dream album: a talented, religious artist in the secular industry who doesn't use profane language or go beyond kissing in his music. Daniel's voice is quite good. It's not the best I've heard, but you know what? That's all right. He shows real emotion...every song is clearly heartfelt. He also has a fabulous range. Not to mention the fact that Daniel wrote all of the songs on the album, and produced all but two.
The music itself is fabulous. The songs range from the relaxed ballads ("If You're Not the One," "Honest Questions") to the fast-paced, hyper tunes ("Friday," "Inflate My Ego").
This is a one-of-a-kind album, and I doubt that another like it will come along in a long time, with the exception of Daniel's future work.
Let's just hope that Daniel doesn't allow himself to become refashioned by the industry, like many other artists.
