5.0 out of 5 stars Get one of the black cover editions
There are 3 versions of this album. Note that the white cover version has a different song order - the first song on that album is the first track of the original album's SIDE B. The Japanese mini album replica lays em down in the correct order, as does the other black cover UK version. This is the way they were meant to be heard with a proper build and good...

3.0 out of 5 stars You Gotta Walk it like you talk it - S Dan review
Customer Video Review     Length:: 0:59 Mins
Its kinda okay

Not much of a replay factor for the album though. Its worth a few spins. "Roll back the meaning" is a good catchy track, like that one a lot

And the lyrics to the album are included with the cd, which is awesome

Has anyone seen the Richard Pryor film this is a soundtrack for?

For what...

For what it is (pre Steely Dan soundtrack by Becker and Fagen) its alright. Some bonus tracks would've been nice. Like the 1972 Steely Dan single (in the UK) of Dallas b/w Sail the waterway, which is hard to come across

That single was released before the superb Can't Buy A Thrill. That would have saved this release

I think this soundtrack album is worth checking out. Don't expect too much from it though, because its just a soundtrack. Its not a Steely Dan album, proper

There are 3 versions of this album. Note that the white cover version has a different song order - the first song on that album is the first track of the original album's SIDE B. The Japanese mini album replica lays em down in the correct order, as does the other black cover UK version. This is the way they were meant to be heard with a proper build and good instrumentals interspersed between lyriced songs. Even though this is just a soundtrack it's still a great album on its own. There are hints of Joni Mitchell and Crosby Stills Nash in my opinion. Of course that was the year. And if you're familiar with early Steely Dan you'll find a lot that's recognizable here as well. Don't listen to the nay-sayers who wouldn't know good music if it bit em in the @ss. And speaking of long lost albums, look for the soon to be re-released edition of Ace's 1974 album Five A Side. It's another album well worth picking up.

Until recently I was unaware that Becker and Fagen had made this album. While some reviews called the music cheesy, I think it's very good. Those two are melodic geniuses!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars A good reason that these weren't released, March 23, 2009
I am one of the biggest "Dan" fans on the planet from way way back. There is a reason this material wasn't released. It sounds like what it is...demo tapes.

Anything from Can't Buy a Thrill on is way better than any of these.

If you are a hardcore, I mean really hardcore, Dan fan this probably is a must have. It doesn't warrant more than one or two listens and it's old hat.
