The bankrupt Gottschalks department store chain, which became an anchor tenant at Eugene's Valley River Center just 2' years ago, has been sold to liquidators and could begin the process of closing all 58 of its stores as early as this week, officials said Tuesday.
At Valley River Center, mall manager Rob McOmie confirmed that the Eugene Gottschalks store will be closed but referred questions about a time line to the Phoenix office of Macerich Co., which owns Valley River.
