My Daughter's Favorite Dolly,

This review is from: Gotz 13" Love 'n Nurture Newborn (Toy)
Let me begin by saying that I have purchased many, many kinds of dolls for my now 3 1/2 year old daughter and that this one is by far her favorite.
We own Waldorf style dolls (cloth dolls with flat expressions for open-ended-play, one with only eyes, one with no face at all) we own large, heavier 18" dolls that mimic 'real' babies, we own mini vinyl dolls, 3 Corolle Poupette cuties with hair for styling and cute outfits, we own dolls that wet, dolls that go in the bathtub, etc. I suppose I wanted my daughter to be able to find a favorite in the mix and this doll is just a perfect fit, size-wise and style-wise. In her 'pajamas', the dolly can be a real 'baby-doll', but she also fits nicely into many Corolle 12-14" and other makers doll clothes and she easily dresses up like a toddler doll, just without the hair. The doll is a thirteen inch baby doll from Gotz's Precious Day collection. This doll has a very sweet face and an open, almost smiling mouth, perfect for taking a bottle, or pretending to nurse or pretending to 'eat' in a dolly highchair. The doll has vinyl arms and legs and head with a soft stuffed body. The body's stuffing includes a fair amount of beans to give the doll a little weight and to allow it to sit (with back support). The doll has a bald head, with slight texture and color for 'hair' under its cute removable cap. It has blue glass eyes which open when she is upright and close when she lays down (very important!). I purchased our doll a few years ago and 'she' was dressed like a boy in denim pants at the time and also had/has chocolate-brown eyes like my daughter, which was/is important to me. I then dressed the doll in new pink striped Corolle pajamas before presenting 'her' and it was love at first sight. I kept the original boyish outfit with all our other doll clothes and my daughter dresses 'her' in the 'boy' clothes but still calls her "Baby Phoebe". She also recently told me she loves this doll best "because she has so many outfits" but really we only have 3 additionally purchased outfits -plus a pair of socks and shoes- unless you consider the other dolls whose outfits are the same or similar size (including the Poupettes!). I think she loves that occasionally I will surprize her by dressing "Baby Phoebe" in some new combination of doll clothes and then sit the doll in her 'new' outfit on the bed for my daughter to discover. I am always delighted that she gets interested in the doll all over again and that they're inseperable for another 2 weeks. I have tried the same trick with other dolls but there is something about this doll that just 'works' for my little girl. She likes to 'wear' her baby in a doll-size sling I made for her and also in a dolly back-pack we got for Baby Annabelle, and takes her on bike rides in the basket on her handle-bars. She often dresses the doll for 'night-night' and then again for morning. We recently bought this exact Love 'n Nurture doll for our cousin's birthday gift and I was happy to see the same wonderful quality Gotz doll, but this newer doll has blue eyes - which is perfect for our little cousin who adores this doll as well. I also love that this doll comes with a diaper, something I had to buy seperately. To see a better photo, the Liveandlearn.com website shows the entire set including the teddy bear and also includes an additional pink two-piece outfit.

The Perfect Doll!,

I purchased the doll for our 18-month old granddaughter for Christmas, and she was absolutely delighted. The doll comes with not only a change of clothes, but also with a baby bottle and a diaper, perfect for teaching our little girl to play "mommy." While the face is beautiful and lifelike, the body is small and soft ("squishy") enough for tiny hands. I can see our granddaughter playing with - and loving - this beautiful doll for years to come.

This doll is a really cute little doll for toddlers. I was very surprised that the 2.5 yr. old recipient just didn't take to her, but preferred a Waldorf rag doll. Go figure. I think the doll is facially adorable, very soft body with just the right amount of heft and the size is just perfect for a little 2.5 year old. A lot of little dollies out there have not so cute faces and I searched a long time before I chose this one. Perhaps, as I read in another review, the size is the issue, as 13" does not approximate a real baby. We'll see when I give the 17" baby for an upcoming 3rd birthday. Caveat, the clothing pilled immediately upon washing, but dollie lays around with no clothes on half the time anyway. P.S. Our dollie, Tula, was supposed to be the star gift, but it is "Tula-teddy" who goes everywhere with us. I basically paid $50 for a 2 inch teddybear.
