Gourds + Fiber is another nice addition from authors Jim Widess and Ginger Summit. It's obvious that the authors worked hard to write a book that would offer some new or less commonly seen techniques. The book has a brief history and gourd basics at the beginning, but moves on quickly to explore topics such as teneriffe, beaded rims, lacing, netting, and macrame, woven rims and bases, decorative basketry techniques, and much more. While this is a project book, each project introduces some new techniques and ideas. The wealth of photos and instructions will inspire you to try some new creative ideas and develop new skills. This is a book I will keep - even if I never make any of the projects, the ideas and techniques are wonderful reference material. Printed in paperback, a good value for the price. (Lark Publishing 144 pages $19.95 cover price)

This is a really neat book. If you've ever thought about working with gourds to make vessels, you ought to get this book and see some of the many many wonderful and beautiful things you can do with gourds. It gives general instructions so that you can do something similar to the gourds shown in the book.

An easy to use summary if the different types of weaving for gourds.. Great pictures and the organization of the book makes it easy to try techniques like twining, coiling, and weaving. The techniques can be easily transferred to wood turning.

This book is beyond great! It shows so many fantastic ways to create unique and stunning pieces. So many textures and fibers. I love the variety of choices for edging and with great instructions. The cover doesn't show the beauty of the work it holds inside. So don't judge a book by it's cover. I saw my friend's book and had to get it right away. This is a keeper for any and all levels of gourd artists. It will a permanent part of your library. I wouldn't be without it!

As always, Summit and Widess present beautifully photographed works of gourd art and provide delightful descriptions of the selections. Their explanations and instructions are simple, straight-forward, and encourage even the novice to step out and try some of these unusual combinations. Thanks again for another "keeper"!
