4.0 out of 5 stars Good for young bakers!
I bought the cupcake maker for my 8 year old daughter for Christmas, also getting the refills. I wasn't sure if she would be interested in something like this, or if they would even come out right or taste good. She's been making cupcakes for our family and her friends almost every weekend! We've had to buy alot more refills! No messy cleanup like the Easy Bake Oven.

3.0 out of 5 stars cupcakes good, decorator not so good
Cupcake maker and the mix refill is good mainly for the ability to make cupcakes in the microwave. My daughter (age 9) made the cupcakes fine but the frosting was too runny (following directions) and didn't work when using the decorator (the large piece of "equipment" that comes with the cupcake maker). Buy the mix so you can make cupcakes in the microwave. Skip the...

Do not buy this product.
My daughter wanted this from Santa and we got the cupcake maker and refills. She took one look at the one cupcake it makes one at a time and wouldn't even try it it looked so bad. I tasted it it tastes awfull and it a total waste of money. Please do not waste your money on this item. I am going to sell it in a yard sale......

I would not recommend buying this at all. (My brother bought it as a Christmas gift.) My 8 year old thought it was fun to do. However, she was frustrated couldn't get the cupcakes to turn out like the picture, the frosting dispenser didn't work that well and she spit out the cupcake after one bite. The frosting and the cupcake mix were both too lumpy. The idea was for her to be able to do this by herself which she could do. I guess if you never ate them and don't expect them to look anything like a good baked cupcake, it would work. But what we got wasn't edible! We threw the whole thing away!

If the idea is to have them cook with you, I'd buy a kids cookbook. My daughter & I have had fun doing that. It's also pretty easy to just buy a cake mix and make cupcakes. Personally, I preferred that because we were spending time together.

This is a good addition for the little baker in your family. You can never have too many baked goods.
