4.0 out of 5 stars terrific bean dip recipe and clever headnotes
After watching Tom Chasuk on the Jay Leno show, I trotted out and bought his book. He's a clever writer and the recipes really work. I especially love Nick's Favorite Black Bean Dip. This isn't an all-purpose cookbook, but it is a terrific little book for appetizers and bean-based main dishes

2.0 out of 5 stars Ho hum
If you like opening cans, you may enjoy this book. I didn't care for it. It's more of an idea book than a cook book. Other than some of the desserts, most of the recipes involve combining ingredients and (at most) heating. Some of the ideas were interesting, such as black bean potstickers, and most seemed as though they would be palatable and healthy, but for various...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great recipes for us bean afficionadas!, March 24, 2010

I cook heirloom beans at least two to three nights a week, My health has improved considerably since I became somewhat obsessed with beans, I just love them, But I was starting to run out of recipes, how to keep them interesting, Well this book is a winner, I've tried about six recipes, all not difficult to do, but all turned out great, were clever ways to cook beans into interesting dishes, My only complaint is I wish it was bigger with more recipes, But as it is, it's a good resource with good recipes, each one I've tried has turned out just great!

The Bean Gourmet Presents the Greatest Little Bean Cookbook is an excellent source of recipes to prepare meals, snacks, dips, etc. If you are not an expert in the kitchen, have no fear, there's a lot you can pick up from this book. If you do have more experience, I think you'll find this volume is a great way to kick-start your own spin on Tom Chasuk's ideas.

Other than some of the desserts, most of the recipes involve combining ingredients and (at most) heating. Some of the ideas were interesting, such as black bean potstickers, and most seemed as though they would be palatable and healthy, but for various reasons I would probably never try them. If you don't generally cook from scratch and are looking for easy ways to eat healthier, this may be a good book for you.

Includes some excellent bean recipes. Variety of ways to cook them. We need more beans in our diets. I am always watching out for more ways to cook them. This was my favorite of 3 books purchased.

2.0 out of 5 stars Title doesn't match taste...., January 5, 2012

This review is from: The Bean Gourmet Presents the Greatest Little Bean Cookbook (Paperback)
I've been increasing the amount of legumes in our diet and bought this book with several others. This one is really disappointing. Calling it the Greatest Little Bean Cookbook is really an overstatement of grand proportions, as is the author calling himself a bean gourmet. The amount of seasonings in each recipe is minimal. None of the international recipes are authentic. If the best beans you've ever had are canned pork and beans, then maybe this will seem like a gourmet bean cookbook. But if you've tried and loved Moosewood, Madhur Jaffrey, or Trish Ross recipes, these will leave you very unsatisfied.
