4.0 out of 5 stars Delicious tamales at a reasonable price
I've ordered tamales from four different suppliers now, and Texas Tamale has been the most reliable. I have numerous food allergies, and I seem to tolerate their tamales really well. Some tamales from other places simply have too much lard in the masa....these are the least "oily". I've had the bean, the beef, and the chicken.....can't do the spinach due to daily...

1.0 out of 5 stars Only so-so
After reading the great reviews I coughed up the 60 bucks for the 48 tamale package. I was a little disappointed when they arrived, they're very small for tamales- about the size of a big cigar. I was was more disappointed when I ate them. They taste like plain fried ground beef in a corn tortilla. The masa is thin and tough and there seems to be virtually no...

I'm now scratching my head wondering what to do with 40 tamales.....

Some tamales from other places simply have too much lard in the masa....these are the least "oily". I've had the bean, the beef, and the chicken.....can't do the spinach due to daily products in it. I may stop from experimenting around with other companies and only stick with Texas Tamales from now on.....they really are delicious. Clever packaging, reasonable shipping.

I used to pick these up at the grocery store when I lived in Texas, but I cannot find them in Tennessee. They are delicious - just the right proportion of meat filling to masa dough. They heat up moist and flavorful. Enjoy!!

Okay, 48 tamales, and smallish at that, for $60. Works out to $1.25 per.

Okay, let's say you cook your own (brown) rice, in a cooker: another buck or so.

You put three tamales ($3.75) on a half-cup bed of cooked rice (maybe $.50, give or take).

So you're up to four and a quarter.

Add a few condiments, to the tune of a quarter (salsa, picante sauce, whatever), and you're at $4.50.

Now tack on an apple, a pear, an orange, or some other fruit to round the meal, and a nice cup of coffee or tea.

You're at *maybe* 6 bucks.

I stress *maybe* -- and where will you find a more pleasant, healthful, low-ish calorie, nutritious lunch for 6 bucks? Mickey the D? Subway? (okay, maybe)

These tamales are NOT for everyday use, they're for a meal every now and again. Creativity renders them ambrosia, in the company of other healthful foodstuffs.

Indulge, at least once, and you'll thank yourself.
