Genius,
By Wizard Mofo "Mofo" (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Government Manual for New Wizards (Paperback)
The authors of this book have done it again...TGMFN Superheroes and Wizards are both very entertaining books, well written. I recommend BOTH books to any person interested in these topics. Especially those Harry Potter fans out there...if you like any topic related to Wizards you'll enjoy this book. The authors are obviously very creative and talented people.

Amazingly funny.,

I don't usually do comedy, it isn't usually my thing, and most "funny" books grow old after awhile - but not this one! I was smiling the whole time I was reading it, and by the end, I was laughing so hard I was crying - literally! I cannot recommend this book enough for any fantasy and/or humor fan.

When In Doubt, Curse Them Again,

I laughed, I cried, I got in trouble with the Inquisition again. Worth a read. Worth stealing from your mates coffee table or better yet, purchase your own. An excellent follow up from the New Superheros Guide.
I was also surprised at the inclusion of the last three draft chapters from the upcoming Book 7 of Harry Potter...

Magically Delicious!,

This review is from: The Government Manual for New Wizards (Paperback)
A little book full of huge laughs! Everything about it - from the clever names and spells to the jokes to the references to pop-culture and literary wizards past and present -- was a delight. In a marketplace full of tongue-in-cheek "guides," this one sticks its tongue in deeper than anyone, and succeeds!

Abraca-delightful!,

Bravo! The dynamic duo of Brozik and Sagerstein have done it again: the Government Manual for New Wizards is, like their first book, a brilliantly written little guide that will - I guarantee - make you giggle, chuckle, possibly even snort with laughter. This is not a book to be read at the opera or in a library, unless you want to get thrown out for disturbing the peace with your chortling. Best of all, this is a *much* more portable book about wizards than those other books-that-shall-not-be-named out on the market - though not as useful as a booster seat for a small child or short adult. Looking forward to the next Government Manual!

If you loved "Superheroes" then you will be equally infatuated with "Wizards." What would take 7 years at Hogwarts will only take a few hours with the Wizards manual. You'll be casting spells and triggering mass-lynchings and protests from the Christian Right in no time!
Oh, and it's really really funny, too.

Brillaint,

This book embodies a brilliance rarely found in poignant simple fiction. It accomplishes a subtle level of satire at the level of Erasmus. A must buy for all.

This book put a spell on my heart,
By Debbie (Somerville, ma United States) - See all my reviews

Does your sixth sense tell you that someone's watching you? Do the eyes marinating in your cauldron look at you a little funny? Do the gnarled trees whisper your name... to the authorities? Either you're paranoid, or the Government has gotten to you, dear witch or wizard. Your only recourse is to read The Government Manual for New Wizards and to follow the guidelines for societally responsible spellcasting. Otherwise, you might wind up with your broom impounded, your familiar in a kennel, and your wand in an evidence locker while you await trial for third-degree aggravated thaumaturgy. Buy this book and spare yourself the sad fate of Ignatius the Incarcerated.

Hi I'm Troy McClure...,

This review is from: The Government Manual for New Wizards (Paperback)
Hi I'm Troy McClure, you might remember me from such reviews as the The Government Manual for New Superheroes. Okay, well that's what reading these books always makes me think of. If you liked the GMfNS then you are going to like the GMfNW. Very amusing throughout but I just liked the GMfNS better. You get things like wizardolesence, where to go to school, summoning demons, useful magical items for the new wizard, tips for gaining your animal companion, and how to deal with the dead. Artwork is minimal but that's alright. There was still room for more stuff and different material could have been used to make this book better such as spells gone awry. None-the-less, still a funny book. I enjoyed the "magic is real and 'this science' can be easily explained away by using magic".
Overall, very light reading and you will laugh multiple times, I think the Government Manual for New Superheroes is better and am looking forward to the GMfNew Pirates. Hopefully this series will continue with something along the lines of GMfNew Aliens on Earth or Space Marine, you catch the drift.

More hilarity from Brozik and Weinstein,
By
This review is from: The Government Manual for New Wizards (Paperback)
I admit it. I know Matthew Brozik. He is a very funny man. Funny, and a little nervous. Kinda jumpy. That's OK, though. I think it explains his very quick wit. I don't know Jacob Weinstein, although he must be pretty funny too, if he's also responsible for this very funny little book.
Harry Potter fans, reformed role playing gamers, and smart people in general will really enjoy this book. It's one of the best "fake information" books I've read. Full of specious facts and guidelines for magicians, the Govt. Manual pokes fun at popular fantasy texts and conventions with occasional (and forgivable) puns, non-sequitors, and hyperboles that remind me of Mel Brooks movies and Woody Allen short stories rolled into one. These guys should be writing for the New Yorker. Discover them now. |
