5.0 out of 5 stars brisk subject review, excellent tests
The course review is short, even only if you're taking the U.S. Gov't exam (which i was). But it was good. There were some facts I learned in their reviews that were never enocuntered in the AP class. (One of the facts learned was a question on the AP test, and a little helped in the essays). 3.0 out of 5 stars A good review
This book offers a good review for anyone who is preparing to take an AP exam in Government. The Comparaitive section is a bit out dated and has some old essay questions, but the Multiple choice tests are good for both American and Comparative.

The course review is short, even only if you're taking the U.S. Gov't exam (which i was). But it was good. There were some facts I learned in their reviews that were never enocuntered in the AP class. (One of the facts learned was a question on the AP test, and a little helped in the essays). The gem of the book is the tests. The multiple choice sections were indicative of the actual exam I took. The explanations of the answers are practically another review session. the essays were good in the sense it gave examples of what (0-3)'s, (4-6)'s, & (7-9)'s looked like, and those were helpful. Taking careful notes on what made the essays 9 or whatever were helpful, as well as just pacing yourself in the 100 minutes to write the 4 essays. Very recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars Short, uninformative, poor exams, and occasional mistakes., May 16, 1999

This review is from: AP Government & Politics (REA) - The Best Test Prep for the Advanced Placement (Advanced Placement (AP) Test Preparation) (Paperback)
I was very dissappointed with this book. Friends of mine who had used the REA American History reveiw highly recommended the series. However, I found the subject reveiw in this edition to be incredably small. It left out major topics from the exam. In addition, the practice exams were extremely poor. The questions were badly worded, with more than one answer being correct. The diagrams were atrocious; in one graph, the lines used to plot two variables were identical. There were also questions where the books answers were wrong; in one instance, I found an answer justifyed by the fact that, and I quote:"Committee chairmanships in the House... are generally given to the member of the majority party (Democratic) that has served the longest..." This is from a book copywritten in 1998, claiming that which has not been true since 1994. Therefore, I feel that this book should only be used if there is absolutely no other available text.

This book is excellent. I have the Barrons, Princeton, Cliff, Kaplan, and all the released exams. This review far-surpasses every other review aid for the AP US Gov and Politics Exam.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great!!!, June 29, 2004

This review is from: AP Government & Politics (REA) - The Best Test Prep for the Advanced Placement (Advanced Placement (AP) Test Preparation) (Paperback)
This book was great in prepping me for the exam. Still dont know what i got, but it covered all the major issues in Comparative Politics that I needed to know. Also, it skips all the BS about good test-taking and strategies and junk and gets right to the info. Comprehensive review for each country in Comparative Politics. But, one word of caution... there are a few topics not covered that will be on the exam, such as current issues, and systems and processes (like Interest Articulation, Aggregation, etc.). Learn that stuff and you're good!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great self study., July 20, 2005
This review is from: AP Government & Politics (REA) - The Best Test Prep for the Advanced Placement (Advanced Placement (AP) Test Preparation) (Paperback)
I used this book to study for both government tests. I knew nothing about the US poltics subject matter and was in a comporative government course. I got 4's on both tests. This book taught me the whole US test.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this book!, May 16, 2000
This review is from: AP Government & Politics (REA) - The Best Test Prep for the Advanced Placement (Advanced Placement (AP) Test Preparation) (Paperback)
This was an excellent review book. The review section was brief, but concentrated on the important stuff. The greatest part was the practice tests. There was a very helpful answers explained section that exlained why each answer was right, and mentioned why each wrong answer was wrong. This book, unlike some others I had, ended any confusion I had with any of the questions. It is true that the copying the charts and graphs are not of the best quality, but that is a minor consideration. As for the charge that it said the Democratic Party was the majority, I was unable to find that in the book. Even so, I found this book to be an invaluable help to my review and I highly recommend that you get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gets the core of what you need to know, December 20, 2005
This review is from: AP Government & Politics (REA) - The Best Test Prep for the Advanced Placement (Advanced Placement (AP) Test Preparation) (Paperback)
The Comparative part is largely useless ofcourse because they come out with new countries every year. However, the US government part was right on. It doesn't go into every detail that you need to know, but it gets through enough material so that a student cramming would find this book golden. Buy it for a quick review before the test, not as a study guide througout the year and you will love it.
