5.0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile reading, January 24, 2006

Tita (Austin, TX) - See all my reviews
This book compares Texas politics to the other states and highlights the advantages and disadvantages of the system. The book is very concise but gives enough information. This is not a book for someone who wants ALL the details listed. It is more for someone who wants a general view of the way things are done in Texas politics; someone who wants to learn where Texas comes from and why things are done the way they are done.

Texas is different to other states in many aspects. This book helps you understand this and put it into perspective. I really enjoyed reading it; you can always do your own research and expand on any topic you want to learn about. I definitely think the book is worth the price.

A very good buy. The book was clean with minor scuffs and was in the conditions stated on the review. An overall good buy.

2.0 out of 5 stars Weakly written text reveals little about TX politics, March 8, 2004
By A Customer
Halter's text attempts with modest success to detail the structure and function of the governing bodies of this strange state of TX. Poorly written, with numerous errors, of both a factual and cosmetic nature, this book should prove useful in perpetuating the low level of expectations promulgated by TX universities. Illustrations are often confusing and misplaced, with inconsistencies in printing and content alike.

Don't purchase this book unless you are from TX, as you will be in for a rude awakening.
