Book Description

0199243638 978-0199243631 October 24, 2001
Why does regulation vary so dramatically from one area to another? Why are vast sums spent on controlling some risks but not on others? Is there any logic to the techniques we use in risk regulation? In this work, Hood explores these crucial questions explored. It looks at a number of risk regulations' regimes, considers the respects in which they differ, and examines how these differences can be justified.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deep and consistent analysis of risk, especially but not only in government policy making and execution, December 28, 2011
"Every organization wants risk management but almost none seem to manage their risks better from one year to the next." A boss of mine made this comment a few years back. I am an avid consumer of books on risk management and risk generally, but however good they are, most of them give no new angles on how to think about and how to manage risk. This book is an exception. What I like most about it is that it spends much time analyzing and suggesting responses to how established organizations, managers and bureaucrats respond to change, often in a way that aims to kill the change. The book is carefully written and carefully researched and thought out--as one would expect of an author from All Souls'. I recommend this book high;y to any senior manager, any director of a company, and anyone who specializes in risk management. The book deserves to be better known.
